Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Gude GHS 520 18 Li-ion / GRT 260 18 Li-ion — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery (95510)
This is an 18V 2000mAh (36Wh) lithium-ion replacement battery for the Gude GHS 520 18 Li-ion cordless hedge trimmer and compatible 18V platform tools. It also fits the GLB 200 18 Li-Ion and GRT 260 18 Li-ion. The OEM part numbers covered include 95510, 95513, 95514, 95515, 95517, 95519, and 490476.
- 18V Gude platform fit: The GHS 520, GLB 200, and GRT 260 all share the same 18V battery rail, connector form factor, and BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers all three tools without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through simulated hedge trimmer load cycles, including dual-blade inrush spikes at startup. The BMS held protection thresholds correctly and did not false-trip on normal cutting engagement.
- Half-load break-in on first use: Run the trimmer on lighter branch sections for the first two cycles before tackling dense overgrowth. This lets the BMS log the motor's inrush current profile and set overcurrent thresholds accurately — skipping this can cause nuisance trips on heavy first cuts.
BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush in the GHS 520
When the dual-blade motor engages, it pulls a short inrush spike well above the steady cutting current. A fresh pack with a conservative BMS — or one that has not yet profiled the load — can read that spike as an overcurrent fault and cut power instantly. The tool goes dead on the trigger pull, then resets after a few seconds. This is not a faulty battery; it is the BMS responding to an unfamiliar load signature. Two break-in cycles at half load teach the BMS where the normal spike ceiling sits.
Charger blinking red on a new pack that has been sitting in storage
Li-ion packs self-discharge during storage. If the cell voltage drops below roughly 2.5V per cell, the Gude charger's acceptance circuit will not initiate a full charge cycle and signals a fault with a red blink. Some chargers include a recovery or wake mode — hold the pack in the charger for 5–10 minutes and check whether the light transitions to a steady charge state. If the charger never progresses, use a bench charger with a manual Li-ion recovery function set to 0.1C to bring cell voltage back above 3.0V per cell before returning to the standard charger.

Frequently Asked Questions
My GHS 520 cuts out the instant I squeeze the trigger — why does the new battery keep doing this?
That is a BMS overcurrent trip caused by the dual-blade motor's inrush spike at startup. The BMS on a fresh pack has not yet profiled the GHS 520's normal startup current, so it reads the spike as a fault and shuts down. Run the trimmer on thin, light branches for two full charge-and-use cycles before tackling dense hedging — after that the BMS will recognise the inrush as normal and stop tripping. If it still cuts out after break-in, check that the battery contacts in the tool are clean and making firm contact, as high contact resistance amplifies the apparent spike.
The battery gets noticeably warm and the trimmer loses power after 10–15 minutes of continuous cutting — what is happening?
Sustained heavy cutting generates heat in both the motor and the battery cells. When cell temperature hits the BMS thermal threshold, it reduces output current to protect the cells — the tool bogs down or stops before you expect it to. This is normal protection behaviour, not a fault. Let the pack cool for five minutes between heavy sessions; the 2000mAh capacity at 18V is rated for intermittent hedge trimming loads, not unbroken sustained cutting runs. If the pack runs hot even on light work, check that the battery housing vents are not blocked with debris.
After a winter in the shed, the trimmer runs weak and barely turns the blades — is the battery dead?
Cold storage raises Li-ion internal resistance significantly, and a partially discharged pack left below 5°C will show severe voltage sag under any real load. Bring the pack indoors and let it reach room temperature for at least two hours before charging. Charge it fully, then confirm resting voltage is at or above 20.0V (18V nominal pack, 10 cells in series at ~2.0V resting minimum). If resting voltage is above that threshold but the trimmer still runs weak, clean the gold-plated battery contacts on both the pack and the tool with a dry cloth — oxidation from damp storage is a common cause of high contact resistance and voltage drop under load.
