Q1: My Hiab remote shows E54 error — is the battery actually dead or just low?

E54 means the remote battery dropped below the minimum voltage to transmit. It doesn't always mean the battery is completely dead. We see this a lot when the battery hasn't been charged in a few weeks. Put it on charge for a full cycle first. If E54 comes back within an hour of use, the battery cells are worn out and it needs replacing.

Q2: Remote turns on fine but the crane stops responding after a few minutes — what's going on?

This is almost always a weak battery. The remote powers up fine on resting voltage but can't hold it under transmission load. The signal drops the moment the remote tries to send commands to the receiver. We've seen this exact issue on Hi Drive 4000 and XS Drive units. Swap the battery before you start chasing receiver or antenna problems.

Q3: Will an aftermarket battery work the same as the original Hiab battery?

Yes, as long as the voltage and chemistry match — 7.2V Ni-MH. The remote doesn't care who made the battery cells. What matters is that the voltage is correct and the connector fits.
