Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HP TouchSmart 4 / ENVY 4-1000 Series — 14.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (HSTNN-IB3R)
This is a 14.8V, 2700mAh (39.96Wh) Li-Polymer replacement battery for the HP TouchSmart 4 and ENVY 4-1000 series notebooks. It fits a wide range of OEM part numbers including HSTNN-IB3R, HSTNN-UB3R, EL04XL, and TPN-C102. The physical dimensions are 205.39 × 121.24 × 7.05mm — verify against your existing cell before fitting.
- TouchSmart 4 and ENVY 4-1000 compatibility: These models share the same 14.8V four-cell battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why one cell covers both product lines and all the listed OEM cross-reference numbers.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge, discharge, and reconnect cycles on a TouchSmart 4 unit. The BMS initialised without fault codes, and the BIOS battery status cleared correctly after a full learn cycle.
- First-install discharge cycle: After fitting, run the laptop on battery from full charge down to automatic hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on this platform.
BIOS reporting battery health as poor immediately after replacement
The HP BIOS on the TouchSmart 4 reads health data from EEPROM embedded in the old cell. When a new cell is fitted, that EEPROM data is gone — the BIOS flags the battery as unknown or degraded because it has no history to reference. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Running one complete discharge-to-hibernate and uninterrupted charge-to-full cycle forces the BIOS to write fresh calibration data. After two to three of these cycles, the health indicator returns to normal.
Laptop shuts down abruptly at 20–30% charge shown on screen
This happens when the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold under combined CPU and display load — even though the OS fuel gauge still reads 20–30%. The fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated to the new cell's actual discharge curve. The fix is to complete two or three full discharge-to-hibernate cycles without interruption. After calibration, the gauge tracks cell voltage accurately and the shutdown point aligns with the displayed percentage. Confirm calibration is complete when the laptop reaches hibernate at or below 5% shown.

Frequently Asked Questions
My HP TouchSmart 4 BIOS shows the new battery as "Unknown" or gives a health warning — is the cell faulty?
The BIOS pulls health data from the EEPROM on the original cell. A fresh replacement has no stored history, so the BIOS flags it as unknown regardless of actual cell condition. Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. That triggers the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the warning within two to three cycles.
System info is showing the wrong Wh rating after I installed the replacement — it doesn't match the 39.96Wh spec on the listing.
The Wh figure displayed in HP's battery utility reads from EEPROM data written to the cell at manufacture. New cells sometimes carry a rated chemistry value that differs slightly from the actual installed capacity until the fuel gauge IC recalibrates against real charge and discharge cycles. This is an EEPROM reporting difference, not a mismatch in the physical cell. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate and charge-to-100% cycles and recheck — the displayed Wh figure typically corrects itself as the fuel gauge IC updates its calculations.
The battery charges to about 80% and then stops — is something wrong with the cell?
HP's BIOS on several ENVY 4 and TouchSmart 4 units includes a firmware-controlled charge limit that caps charging at 80% when battery care or extended life mode is active. Open HP Support Assistant or check BIOS settings under Power Management for a "Battery Care Function" or "Maximize My Battery Health" toggle. Disable that setting, then reconnect the charger. The cell itself has no 80% cutoff — this is entirely a BIOS charge-limit function, not a cell fault.
