Fits HP ZBook Fury 16 G9 models; replaces M85951-171, M85951-271, M86087-001, M86087-005, TPN-DB1F, TPN-IB0N, VS08XL.
15.4V and 5900mAh capacity sustains the CPU, GPU, and display load on mobile workstation tasks without voltage sag.
Connector slides into the battery slot with a single locking tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
We bench-tested the cell against a ZBook Fury 16 G9 under sustained rendering load; BMS held 15.1V at cutoff threshold.
After installation, fully discharge to hibernation cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears inaccurate health warnings that appear after every cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HP ZBook Fury 16 G9 Series — 15.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (VS08XL)

This 15.4V, 5900mAh (90.86Wh) Li-Polymer battery replaces the original cell in the HP ZBook Fury 16 G9 mobile workstation. It fits models including the 6X1G1PA, 62U60EA, and 6X3K9UT. OEM part numbers covered include M85951-171, M85951-271, M86087-001, M86087-005, TPN-DB1F, TPN-IB0N, and VS08XL.

  • ZBook Fury 16 G9 platform fit: These G9 variants share the same 15.4V power rail, VS08XL connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A single cell revision covers the full model range listed above without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a ZBook Fury 16 G9 unit. The BMS communicated correctly with the BIOS, reported accurate state-of-charge, and did not trigger any protection fault during high-CPU load draws.
  • Post-install calibration on ZBook Fury 16 G9: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears in HP Support Assistant after a cell swap.

BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after replacement

The ZBook Fury 16 G9 BIOS reads EEPROM data stored on the old cell and compares it against the new cell's reported values. When those values don't match cached history, the BIOS flags the battery as degraded — even if the new cell is at full capacity. This is a firmware calibration issue, not a fault with the replacement cell. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% to force the BIOS to rewrite the learn cycle against the new cell's actual chemistry.

Laptop shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's voltage curve. The reported percentage drifts ahead of actual cell voltage, so the system hits the hardware low-voltage cutoff before the gauge reaches 0%. Under full CPU and display load, the ZBook Fury 16 G9 draws enough current to accelerate this voltage cliff. Two to three complete discharge-and-charge cycles will align the fuel gauge IC to the new cell — after which the 20–30% shutdown stops.

Frequently Asked Questions

HP Support Assistant shows the new battery as "unknown" or 0% right after I installed it — is the cell dead?

The cell is not dead. The ZBook Fury 16 G9 BIOS pulls health data from EEPROM written by the old cell, and when that data is absent or mismatched, it reports "unknown" or 0% until a learn cycle runs. We confirmed this behaviour on the bench — the cell charges and discharges normally despite the warning. Discharge fully to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%, and the BIOS will rewrite the health record against the new cell.

My ZBook Fury 16 G9 stops charging at 80% and won't go higher — did I get a faulty battery?

This is almost always a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a fault with the replacement cell. HP ships the ZBook Fury 16 G9 with an adaptive charging feature that caps charge at 80% when it detects the laptop is regularly plugged in — it's a firmware setting, not a battery threshold. Go to HP Support Assistant or BIOS setup, find Battery Health Manager or Adaptive Battery Charging, and switch it to "Maximise my battery" or "Full charge." The cell will then charge to 100%.

System information shows the wrong Wh rating — it says something different from the 90.86Wh on the listing

The Wh figure displayed in Windows or BIOS comes from the EEPROM value encoded in the original cell's firmware, not from measuring the actual chemistry. When a replacement cell carries a different EEPROM-rated Wh value, the OS reports that number instead. This is a data mismatch between stored ratings, not a capacity shortfall in the physical cell. Run two full discharge-and-charge cycles — on the second cycle, check Device Manager under Batteries → Microsoft ACME-Compliant Control Method Battery and confirm the "Design Capacity" field updates to reflect the new cell's rated 90860mWh.
