Fits Husqvarna Automower G1 models; replaces OEM part numbers 535 0636-01 and 535 0962-01.
12V, 4000mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers consistent power for autonomous navigation and blade operation throughout mowing cycles.
Battery slides into the mower's top-mounted compartment with a straight vertical insert; connector aligns on downward pressure without forcing.
We bench-tested this pack across five full discharge cycles; the BMS held steady with no cutoff glitches under blade load.
On first use after winter storage, run the mower at idle for two minutes before engaging the blade to let the motor contacts settle.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Husqvarna Automower G1 — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (535 0636-01)

This is a 12V, 4000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Husqvarna Automower G1 robotic lawn mower. It fits models from 1998 through to later G1 variants and replaces OEM part numbers 535 0636-01 and 535 0962-01. Capacity is 48Wh — same as the original pack.

  • Automower G1 series compatibility: The G1 platform across 1998, 1999, and 2000 production years uses the same 12V battery bay, connector, and BMS handshake. All G1 variants draw the same voltage rail to power the drive motors and blade deck, so one battery covers the full G1 range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the pack through the Automower G1 charge cycle and confirmed the BMS accepted the cells without fault codes. Load testing across drive and blade motor draw showed voltage held stable under normal mowing conditions.
  • Seasonal storage tip: Ni-MH cells self-discharge faster than Li-ion — at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. If the mower sits unused for more than six weeks, run a partial charge cycle before returning it to the dock to prevent the cells dropping into a recovery-charge state.

Charger showing fault light after the mower sat in the garage all winter

Ni-MH packs left uncharged through winter will self-discharge to a point below the charger's acceptance threshold. The Automower dock interprets this as a fault and refuses to begin the main charge cycle. Most docks have a trickle or recovery mode — leave the mower seated in the dock for 30–60 minutes without disturbing it. Once cell voltage climbs above approximately 10V, the dock should switch to its normal charge cycle automatically.

Mower cuts out mid-row then restarts on its own

This is thermal protection firing, not a battery fault. When the blade motor hits dense or wet grass, inrush current spikes and the BMS trips the pack to protect the cells. The mower pauses, the BMS resets, and the unit resumes. Let the mower cool for five minutes before sending it back out. If the cut-outs become frequent, check for grass buildup under the deck restricting blade rotation — that sustained drag is what keeps pushing current above the BMS threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions

The charger dock shows a red fault light on a brand-new battery — why won't it start charging?

A new Ni-MH pack can arrive partially discharged from shipping and storage, dropping below the voltage threshold the Automower dock needs to begin a standard charge cycle. Seat the mower in the dock and leave it completely undisturbed for 45–60 minutes — most docks run a low-current recovery pulse before switching to the main charge stage. If the fault light clears and green charging begins, the pack was just below the acceptance voltage. If it stays red after an hour, check that the dock contacts are clean and making full contact with the battery terminals.

The mower runs noticeably shorter distances on cold mornings compared to warm afternoons — is the battery faulty?

It's not a fault. Ni-MH cells lose usable capacity in cold temperatures because internal resistance rises as the electrolyte cools. On a 5–10°C morning the pack delivers measurably less current before the BMS pulls it back, so the mower covers less ground per charge. Bring the battery indoors the night before the first cold-morning cut and let it reach room temperature — that alone restores normal capacity without any other intervention.

The new battery runs noticeably warmer than the old one did — should I be concerned?

New Ni-MH cells run warm during the first several charge and discharge cycles while the chemistry stabilises. This is normal for roughly the first five full cycles and the temperature should level off after that. Warm to the touch is expected — hot enough that you cannot hold it is not. If the pack stays uncomfortably hot after five cycles, check that the mower deck is clear of debris, because blade drag forces sustained high current draw that keeps the cells under load longer than normal operation requires.
