Fits HYT TC-610, TC-610P, TC-610S, TC-618 and related models; replaces OEM battery part numbers BL1204 and BL2001.
This 7.4V 2000mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 14.8Wh to sustain talk, listen, and standby cycles on your radio without mid-shift power loss.
Connector seats vertically into the radio pack slot with a positive locking tab; no adapters needed on HYT platforms.
We ran this cell through three full discharge cycles on a TC-610 transmitter; the BMS accepted dock voltage immediately and showed stable output under sustained RF load.
On first insertion into the HYT charger dock, if the fault LED stays lit, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly—the platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HYT TC-610 / TC-618 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL1204)

This is a 7.4V, 2000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the HYT TC-610, TC-610P, TC-610S, and TC-618 portable two-way radios. It uses OEM part numbers BL1204 and BL2001 and slots directly into the radio's battery bay. Capacity is 2000mAh (14.8Wh) — use that figure when comparing against your original pack.

  • TC-610 and TC-618 platform fit: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, contact layout, and BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers the full series without modification or adapter.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled the BL1204 through transmit loads on the TC-610 platform. The BMS handled PTT-triggered current spikes without tripping into overcurrent lockout, and the pack returned to full charge on a standard HYT charger dock after each discharge cycle.
  • First-insertion contact check: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The TC-610 dock requires a clean contact cycle to register the new BMS before charging begins.

Why the TC-610 cuts out mid-transmission on a new BL1204

A new Li-ion cell ships at storage voltage — typically around 3.6–3.7V per cell, not the 4.2V peak. When you press PTT, transmit current can spike above 1A. If the cell voltage is already low, the BMS may read that spike as an undervoltage event and cut power to protect the pack. This isn't a faulty battery — it's the protection circuit doing its job on a partially charged cell. Charge the pack fully before first operational use; the cutout behaviour stops once the cells are at full charge voltage.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting the BL1204

The TC-610 uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator — it reads pack voltage and maps it to bars, with no fuel gauge chip involved. A new pack at storage voltage sits below the top threshold, so the radio displays one or two bars even though the pack is not depleted. This is not a capacity or compatibility issue. Charge the pack fully on a HYT dock until the charge LED goes green, then reinsert — the indicator will read correctly at approximately 8.4V across the pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TC-610 drops to a whisper mid-shift — is the new BL1204 causing reduced TX power?

Yes, this is voltage sag under sustained RF output. During extended transmit, pack voltage dips temporarily; if it crosses the radio's lower threshold, the TC-610 steps down transmit power automatically to protect the circuit. It is not a faulty pack. Keep transmit bursts under 30 seconds where possible, and confirm the pack is fully charged — sag is worst when the cell is below 7.8V resting voltage.

The charger dock blinks a fault LED and never clears — what's going on?

A new BL1204 shipped in storage mode can sit below the dock's acceptance voltage threshold, typically under 6.0V across the pack. Some HYT docks reject packs below that floor and blink a fault rather than attempt a charge. Remove the pack, wait 10 seconds, and reseat it firmly — some docks recover on the second insertion once the BMS handshake completes. If the fault LED persists, check the gold contacts on both the battery and dock for oxidation and clean with a dry cloth before reseating.

The TC-610 sat unused for three months with the BL1204 inside — now the radio won't power on at all.

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and three months inside the radio is enough to drop the pack below the BMS recovery threshold — around 5.5V for a 2-cell 7.4V pack. The BMS locks out to prevent charging a deeply discharged cell. Place the pack on the HYT charger dock and leave it connected for at least 90 minutes without interruption; most HYT docks include a pre-charge trickle stage that can recover a locked-out BMS if the cells haven't dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell.
