Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

i kub 212 — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (4/HHR-300SC)
This is a 4.8V, 3000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the i kub Model 212 emergency lighting unit. It fits the original 4/HHR-300SC cell position and restores the unit's ability to power emergency exit illumination during mains failure. Capacity is 3000mAh (14.4Wh), matching the original specification.
- i kub 212 compatibility: The Model 212 uses a 4-cell Ni-MH pack at 4.8V to match the charge controller's float voltage and thermistor-based charge termination. Swapping to a different voltage or chemistry will cause the controller to misread charge state or overcharge the pack.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and a simulated mains-failure load test. The BMS accepted charge termination correctly and the cell delivered rated capacity at the emergency lighting load current without voltage collapse.
- First-cycle commissioning: After installation, hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours. This lets the charge controller register the new cell's capacity and prevents a false fault reading on your next scheduled compliance test.
Charge indicator staying red after fitting a new 4/HHR-300SC cell
A new Ni-MH cell shipped from storage typically sits at a resting voltage below the charge controller's float acceptance threshold. The i kub 212 controller interprets this as a fault rather than a low cell, so the red indicator stays on even after a confirmed good installation. Leave the unit on mains power for a full 24-hour charge cycle before judging the indicator state. After that cycle, the cell voltage should reach the float window and the indicator should shift to green.
Emergency light dims partway through a duration test after battery replacement
This happens when the replacement cell has not completed a full conditioning charge before the test is run. A partially charged Ni-MH pack starts the test at nominal voltage but sags under sustained load as usable capacity runs short. It is not a cell defect — the cell simply has not reached rated capacity yet. Allow a full 24-hour charge on mains after installation, then repeat the duration test from zero.

Frequently Asked Questions
My i kub 212 passed its last annual test but failed the duration test straight after I fitted this new battery — is the cell faulty?
The cell is almost certainly fine. A fresh Ni-MH pack arrives from storage at a reduced state of charge, so it cannot deliver full rated capacity on its first test cycle. Put the unit back on mains power for a full 24 hours, then run the duration test again from the start. A cell genuinely failing to hold charge will still fall short after that conditioning cycle — at that point check the resting voltage, which should be at or above 4.8V before the test begins.
The fitting's fault LED is still showing even though I've checked the new cell is seated correctly — what's causing this?
Some i kub 212 fittings latch a fault LED in hardware and do not clear it automatically when the cell voltage recovers. The controller logged the low-voltage condition from the old degraded cell and holds that state until manually reset. Disconnect mains power, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect — this forces the controller to re-poll the cell voltage and clear the latched fault if the new cell reads within the accepted window. If the LED stays on after reset, measure the pack voltage directly at the connector; it should read 4.8V or above after a full charge.
The original battery swelled and the case was warm to the touch — will that happen with this replacement?
Swelling on Ni-MH emergency lighting cells is almost always caused by years of continuous trickle charge in an enclosed fitting with poor airflow, not by a cell defect. The charge controller on aging units can drift out of calibration and apply a slightly elevated float current indefinitely. Check that the fitting's ventilation slots are clear and, if the fitting is more than eight years old, have the charge termination circuit tested before installing any replacement cell — a faulty controller will damage a new cell the same way it damaged the original.
