Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

IDP Vaquero — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (DR202)
This is a 10.8V, 6600mAh (71.28Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the IDP Vaquero laptop. It slots into the Vaquero battery bay and connects to the system via the original locking mechanism. Voltage and capacity match the factory cell exactly.
- Vaquero platform fit: The Vaquero uses a fixed 10.8V three-cell-series architecture. The battery connector, locking tab geometry, and BMS communication pins are specific to this chassis — cells from other IDP lines do not seat correctly or negotiate with the EC firmware.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge on a Vaquero unit. The BMS handshake completed on first connect, the EC accepted the cell without flagging an unknown device, and charge progressed through CC and CV phases without interruption.
- First-cycle calibration on the Vaquero: After fitting this cell, let the laptop discharge fully until it hibernates, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without use. This forces the Vaquero's fuel gauge IC to re-learn the new cell's actual capacity and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears in the OS after any cell swap.
BIOS reporting battery health as poor immediately after fitting the new cell
The Vaquero BIOS reads health data from EEPROM registers on the battery's BMS board. When a new cell is installed, those registers contain factory defaults, not real charge history — so the BIOS flags the battery as degraded before a single cycle has run. This is not a fault with the cell. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate cycle followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100%. After that cycle, the BIOS recalculates health from live data and the warning clears.
Vaquero shutting down suddenly at 20–30% charge shown on screen
This happens when the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold under combined CPU and display load, even though the OS fuel gauge still shows charge remaining. The fuel gauge IC predicts remaining capacity from a model — it does not measure actual terminal voltage in real time under load. If the new cell has not been calibrated yet, the model is still tuned to the old degraded cell, so the shutdown appears earlier than the display suggests. Run the full discharge-to-hibernate cycle described above; the IC resets its model to the new cell and the OS percentage will align with actual cutoff voltage — approximately 9.0V at the pack terminals.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Vaquero OS is showing a wildly wrong percentage — jumps from 60% straight to 15% with no warning. Is the new battery faulty?
The fuel gauge IC on the Vaquero motherboard builds a capacity model from previous charge cycles. After a cell swap, that model still reflects the old degraded cell, so the percentage readings are inaccurate for the first few cycles. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by uninterrupted charges to 100% each time. After the second cycle the IC recalibrates its model against the new cell and the percentage readings stabilise.
System info shows this battery as 47Wh but the spec says 71.28Wh — why is there a discrepancy?
The Wh figure shown in system info is pulled from the battery's EEPROM, which stores the rated value written at manufacture — sometimes against a conservative cell grade. The actual chemistry in this pack delivers 71.28Wh as measured on the bench. The EEPROM figure does not affect how the battery charges or discharges; it only affects what the OS reports in the battery details panel. No action is needed, but if the figure bothers you, some BIOS versions on the Vaquero allow a battery reset that rewrites the displayed value after a full calibration cycle.
New battery charges to about 80% and then the charge light goes off as if it's full — won't go any higher.
The Vaquero BIOS includes a charge-limit setting that caps charging at 80% to reduce long-term cell stress. This is controlled by firmware, not the battery itself. Check the BIOS power management page — on most Vaquero builds this is under Advanced → Battery Charge Configuration. Set the charge mode to full charge or 100% threshold, save, and reboot. The cell will then charge to 100% on the next cycle.
