The terminal can stall or loop at the boot screen until that handshake completes. Charge the battery to 100% in the terminal before powering it on for the first time — this primes the BMS and clears the boot loop.

Battery percentage stuck at 99% and not moving on first charge

New Li-ion cells often arrive at a partial state of charge, and the Move 5000's charge IC enters a top-off mode when it detects a cell already near full voltage. The indicator stays pinned at 99% while the IC trickle-charges the final milliamp-hours — this is normal behaviour, not a fault. Leave the terminal on charge until the indicator advances to 100% and the charging LED changes state. That confirms the charge IC has exited top-off mode and the battery is fully conditioned.

My Move 5000 keeps rebooting partway through printing a receipt — is the battery causing this?

Yes, the receipt printer motor draws a sharp current spike at the moment it fires, and if the battery's BMS reads that spike as an overcurrent event, it trips and cuts power instantly — which looks like a mid-transaction reboot. This is the most common failure mode on Move 5000 terminals with a degraded or poorly seated battery. Seat the replacement battery firmly so the connector is fully engaged, then charge to 100% before the first live transaction. If the reboot stops after a full charge cycle, the BMS was simply reacting to low cell voltage amplifying the printer spike.

My Move 5000 won't turn on at all after sitting in a drawer for a few months — is the battery dead?

Self-discharge during storage can pull a Li-ion cell below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V — at which point the protection circuit locks out to prevent damage and the terminal won't power on at all. Connect the terminal to its charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC will attempt a pre-charge recovery cycle to bring the cell voltage back above 3.0V, after which the BMS unlocks and normal charging resumes.

The Move 5000 battery indicator shows full charge but the terminal goes flat earlier than expected during a busy shift — what's happening?

The Move 5000 charge indicator relies on a capacity map built during early use cycles. If the terminal was deployed immediately after battery install without a full charge cycle, that map was set against an uncalibrated baseline and the gauge reads optimistically. Run two complete charge-discharge cycles — full charge to 100%, normal use until the low battery warning fires — and the terminal's charge IC will recalculate the capacity map against real cell behaviour. The indicator will then track accurately against the 3400mAh rated capacity of this cell.
