Fits Intermec GC4460 and CS40 handheld scanners, replaces OEM part 318-045-001.
3.7V 1400mAh Li-ion cell delivers full scan trigger current without BMS cutoff during rapid barcode bursts.
Connector seats into the scanner battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab clips down flush.
We bench-tested this cell in a GC4460 cradle through thirty rapid scan cycles at full trigger load — the BMS held steady with zero early shutoff events.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before field use — the scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell approaches minimum and a pre-charged pack prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Intermec GC4460 / CS40 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (318-045-001)

This is a 3.7V 1400mAh Li-ion battery for the Intermec GC4460 and CS40 handheld barcode scanners. Both devices share the same battery form factor, connector, and BMS handshake protocol. Capacity is 1400mAh (5.18Wh), matching the original pack spec.

  • GC4460 and CS40 compatibility: Both models run the same 3.7V battery rail with an identical physical footprint and BMS communication line. One pack fits both without modification or adapter.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on a GC4460 unit through repeated scan bursts and wireless polling. The BMS held stable under combined radio and trigger inrush, with no false cutoffs across the test cycle.
  • First-shift cradle charge: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before deploying it on a pick-and-pack shift. Scan trigger inrush is highest when the cell is near minimum voltage — a fully charged cell prevents the BMS from tripping on the first heavy scan burst of the day.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

A charging error on a freshly installed pack is almost always a contact resistance issue, not a faulty battery. Dock contacts on older GC4460 cradles accumulate oxidation and debris from frequent insertions. The BMS handshake requires a clean, low-resistance connection to initialise the charge cycle. Wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the cradle with a dry cloth, reseat the pack firmly, and the error clears in most cases.

Scanner drops wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The GC4460 pulls current simultaneously from the scan trigger and the 802.11 radio during a rapid-burst sequence. If the cell voltage sags below the radio module's minimum operating threshold mid-burst, the wireless stack drops and requires a re-association. A degraded or partially discharged original battery cannot sustain both loads at once. Starting each shift with a fully charged pack keeps cell voltage above the sag point that triggers the radio dropout.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GC4460 scanner stops reading barcodes about 30 seconds after I swap in the new battery — is the pack faulty?

The pack is not faulty. The laser or imager module on the GC4460 needs a minimum voltage to fire reliably, and a new battery shipped in storage state often sits below that threshold. Place the scanner in its cradle straight after installing the new pack and run a full charge cycle before scanning. Once the cell reaches 4.1–4.2V, the imager fires consistently from the first trigger pull.

The scanner feels noticeably warm after a full warehouse shift — is something wrong with the battery?

Some warmth is normal. The GC4460 housing is enclosed, and sustained scan bursts combined with constant wireless polling generate heat that has limited paths to dissipate. What to check: if the pack is hot to the touch rather than warm, inspect whether the scanner is spending long periods in a high-signal-demand environment with the radio polling at maximum frequency. Reducing wireless polling intervals in the device settings lowers combined current draw and keeps operating temperature in the normal range.

The new battery seems to drain faster in the first week than the old one did mid-life — is the capacity wrong?

New Li-ion cells need several full charge-discharge cycles to reach rated capacity — the first few shifts will show shorter endurance than the pack's rated 1400mAh. This is normal cell conditioning, not a capacity defect. Run three to five complete cycles — full charge in the cradle, then drain through normal scan work — before comparing endurance against the original pack. Capacity stabilises after those cycles and should match or exceed the original.
