7.4V lithium-ion at 2800mAh delivers sustained transmit power on the P25 without midshift sag.
Slide connector accepts the KNB-series clip; locking tab seats flush against the radio chassis.
Bench test showed BMS stable under sustained PTT cycles and no dock rejection on first charge.
On initial insertion into a P25 charger dock that shows fault LED, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly—the Kenwood platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kenwood P25 / TK-5230 / TK-5330 / TK-5430 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (KNB-L1)

This 7.4V, 2800mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the KNB-L1, KNB-L2, KNB-L3, KNB-N4, and related OEM packs for the Kenwood P25, TK-5230, TK-5330, and TK-5430 series two-way radios. It fits directly into the radio body and connects via the same contact array as the original. No tools or adapters required.

  • P25 and TK-5000 series fit: These models share a common 7.4V battery bay, contact pitch, and BMS handshake protocol — so one pack covers the full platform without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the pack through charge and discharge cycles on a TK-5330. The BMS responded correctly to transmit-current spikes during PTT, held voltage within spec under sustained RF output, and showed no overcurrent faults at the dock.
  • First insertion on the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first seating, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Kenwood P25 platform requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.

Why the TK-5330 drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on a new battery

The TK-5330 monitors pack voltage in real time and steps down transmit power if voltage sags below a set threshold during high-draw RF output. A new cell shipped at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V per cell — sits close to this threshold before a full charge cycle. The radio interprets that sag as a weak pack and throttles output. One complete charge cycle before first use brings cell voltage to 4.2V per cell and eliminates the sag response.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting this pack

Kenwood P25-series radios use voltage-threshold bar indicators — each bar represents a voltage band, not a percentage. A pack arriving at storage voltage will read one bar low even though the cell capacity is intact. This is not a fault with the cell. Seat the pack in the charger, let it complete a full charge cycle, and the indicator will step up to the correct bar count at 8.4V fully charged.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Kenwood TK-5330 cuts out completely when I press PTT — is the new battery faulty?

This is a BMS overcurrent response, not a faulty cell. When PTT is pressed, transmit current spikes sharply — if the pack was installed at storage voltage, the BMS can interpret that spike as an overcurrent event and disconnect the output. Charge the pack fully before first use. A full charge cycle brings each cell to 4.2V and gives the BMS enough headroom to handle the transmit surge without tripping.

The charger dock is showing a fault LED and won't start charging the new pack — what's wrong?

The Kenwood dock requires a clean BMS handshake through the gold contact strip before it accepts a new pack. Oxidation or residue on those contacts — common on new packs from storage — breaks the handshake and triggers the fault LED. Remove the pack, wipe the contact strip firmly with a dry cloth, and reseat it in one smooth motion. The fault LED should clear within 10 seconds of a clean reseat.

The radio worked fine all morning, then started cutting RF output in the afternoon — battery or radio fault?

Voltage sag under sustained RF output is the most common cause. As the pack discharges through a shift, cell voltage drops — and the TK-5330 reduces transmit power once pack voltage falls below its lower threshold. Check pack voltage with a multimeter at the contacts: below 7.0V under no load means the cell is near depletion. Seat it in the dock and run a full recharge cycle before the next shift.
