Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kirisun PT7200 / PT4208 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (KB-70)

This is a 7.4V, 1700mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Kirisun PT7200 and PT4208 portable two-way radios. It uses OEM part numbers KB-70 and KB-70B. Swap it in when the original pack no longer holds a charge through a full work shift.

  • PT7200 and PT4208 platform fit: Both radios share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers both units without any modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through transmit loads matching PTT duty cycles on the PT7200. The BMS held voltage rail above the radio's low-battery threshold across repeated TX bursts, and the protection circuit responded correctly to overcurrent events without locking out the pack.
  • First insertion into the dock: If the charger shows a fault indication on first insert, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Kirisun dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging starts.

Why the PT7200 cuts out mid-transmission on a new KB-70 pack

New Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.7V per cell — not at full charge. When PTT is pressed, transmit current spikes sharply, and a cell sitting at storage voltage can momentarily sag below the radio's undervoltage cutoff. The radio interprets this as a depleted pack and drops the transmission. A full charge cycle before first use brings both cells to 4.2V and gives the BMS enough headroom to absorb that transmit spike cleanly.

Bar indicator reading one bar lower than expected after fitting a new pack

The PT7200 uses a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator — it reads resting cell voltage and maps it to bars. A pack at storage voltage sits in the two-bar range, not the three-bar range, so the display looks wrong even though the pack is not faulty. Charge the pack fully in the dock until the charge LED goes solid, then reinsert it into the radio. The bar indicator should read full at or above 8.2V resting.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PT7200 drops to low TX power mid-shift even though the battery was fully charged at the start — what's happening?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output, not a faulty pack. When the radio runs extended transmit cycles, current draw stays high long enough to pull cell voltage into the radio's reduced-power threshold. It's more common in high-duty-cycle environments like dispatch or site coordination. Check that the gold contacts on both the battery and radio are clean — resistance on a dirty contact amplifies voltage drop under load.

The charger dock blinks a fault LED and never starts charging the new KB-70 — how do I clear it?

The Kirisun dock checks for a minimum pack voltage before it opens the charge circuit. If the new pack shipped below the dock's acceptance threshold, the dock reads it as an unrecognised or fault pack. Remove the battery, wipe all gold contacts with a dry cloth, and reseat it with firm pressure to ensure a full contact cycle. If the fault LED persists, try a different outlet or a second dock if available — dock firmware can lock on a first failed handshake until power-cycled.

The KB-70 pack sat unused in a drawer for several months and now the radio won't turn on — is it dead?

Extended storage allows Li-ion cells to self-discharge below the BMS recovery threshold — typically under 2.5V per cell — at which point the protection circuit locks the pack out entirely. Place the pack in the Kirisun dock and leave it for at least 30 minutes before concluding it won't charge; some docks apply a trickle recovery pulse to packs sitting between 2.5V and 3.0V per cell. If the dock shows no activity at all after 30 minutes, the cells have discharged past recovery and the pack needs replacement.
