Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Lenovo IdeaPad S540-15iml — 11.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (L18M3PF8)
This 11.4V, 4500mAh (51.3Wh) lithium-polymer battery is a direct replacement for the Lenovo IdeaPad S540-15iml and S540-15 series notebooks. It fits models including the 81ng001kau, 81ng00bjar, and 81ng00byvn variants, along with 34 additional S540-15 configurations sharing the same OEM part number L18M3PF8. The physical cell measures 216.10 × 134.10 × 6.50mm and connects via the original S540 battery harness.
- S540-15 series compatibility: All listed S540-15iml variants run the same 11.4V three-cell Li-Polymer architecture with the same BMS connector and EEPROM handshake. The L18M3PF8 and 5B10W67354 part numbers cross-reference the same cell specification, so one SKU covers the full model range without connector or firmware conflict.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on an S540-15 unit. The BMS handshake completed correctly, charge current ramped normally from CC to CV phase, and the controller terminated at 100% without triggering an overcharge fault.
- Post-install battery learn cycle: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without unplugging. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning the S540 commonly displays after any cell swap.
BIOS reporting battery health as poor immediately after replacement
The S540's embedded controller reads health data from the cell's EEPROM, which stores charge cycle count and rated capacity from the previous battery. When a new cell is installed, the controller compares its stored cycle data against the new cell's EEPROM and flags a mismatch as degraded health. This is a firmware behaviour, not a fault with the replacement cell. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% allows the BIOS to rewrite its fuel gauge baseline against the new cell's actual capacity. After two to three cycles the health status normalises.
S540 shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen
This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's discharge curve. The gauge was trained on the old cell's voltage profile, so it reads 20–30% remaining at a voltage point where the new cell is actually near depletion. Under full CPU and display load the cell voltage drops sharply, the BMS trips on undervoltage, and the laptop cuts out before the OS can hibernate. To fix this, let the laptop discharge completely to automatic hibernate cutoff under normal use — do not force-shutdown it — then charge fully to 100% without interruption. Repeat this once more and the fuel gauge IC recalibrates to the correct voltage-to-capacity curve for the new cell, typically settling to accurate readings by cycle three.

Frequently Asked Questions
My S540 shows 0% or "battery unknown" in Windows right after I fitted the new cell — is it dead?
This is an EEPROM mismatch, not a dead cell. The embedded controller is reading cycle-count and health data from the old battery's memory and has not yet accepted the new cell's EEPROM signature. Plug in AC power and leave the laptop charging for a full uninterrupted cycle to 100%. The controller re-initialises the handshake during that first charge, and the battery shows correctly in Windows Device Manager and the Lenovo Vantage app once the cycle completes.
Windows is showing this battery as 45Wh but the spec says 51.3Wh — did I get the wrong cell?
The Wh figure Windows reports comes from the EEPROM data the fuel gauge IC has stored, not from a live measurement of the new cell. The old cell's rated Wh gets written into that register over time, and until the new cell completes a calibration cycle, the controller reports the previous value. Run a full discharge to hibernate cutoff followed by a complete charge to 100%. After that cycle the fuel gauge IC updates the register to reflect the new cell's actual 51.3Wh rating.
The S540 charging stops at 80% and won't go higher — is the new battery faulty?
The charge limit at 80% is set by Lenovo's BIOS firmware, not by the battery itself. The S540 ships with a "Battery Conservation Mode" that caps charging at 60% or 80% to reduce long-term cell stress when the laptop is used mostly on AC. Open Lenovo Vantage, go to Power → Battery, and check whether Conservation Mode or a custom charge threshold is enabled. Disable it and the charge ceiling returns to 100%.
