Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Lenovo ThinkPad T480s — 11.58V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (01AV478)
This 11.58V, 4600mAh (53.27Wh) lithium-polymer battery fits the Lenovo ThinkPad T480s ultrabook. It replaces the original internal cell when capacity has degraded or the battery has failed outright. Compatible OEM part numbers include 01AV478, 01AV479, L17L3P71, L17M3P71, SB10K97620, and several related variants.
- T480s internal battery platform: The T480s uses a fixed internal 3-cell Li-Polymer pack running a single 11.58V rail. All T480s variants — including the 20L7 and 20L8 chassis codes — share this same connector pinout and BMS handshake protocol, which is why one cell works across more than 170 sub-models.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the T480s charge controller and confirmed the BMS accepted the pack without fault codes. Charge current ramped correctly through CC and CV phases, and the fuel gauge IC registered cell capacity within normal bounds after two full cycles.
- First-cycle calibration on T480s: After installing, discharge the laptop normally until it hibernates at low battery, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without interruption. This forces the BIOS battery learn cycle to reset against the new cell and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every internal cell swap.
BIOS reporting battery health as poor immediately after replacement
The T480s BIOS stores learned capacity data from the previous cell in non-volatile memory. When a new cell goes in, that cached data no longer matches actual cell behaviour, so the BIOS flags health as poor or unknown. This is not a fault with the replacement cell — it is a data mismatch. Running one complete discharge-to-hibernate followed by a full uninterrupted charge resets the learn cycle. After two or three cycles the health indicator typically returns to normal.
T480s shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen
This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's voltage curve. The new cell hits a voltage cliff under combined CPU and display load at a state of charge the gauge still reads as 20–30%. The laptop interprets this voltage drop as a critical low and shuts down. Discharge fully to hibernate-cutoff and recharge to 100% twice — after these calibration cycles the gauge maps correctly to the new cell's curve and the premature shutdowns stop.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Windows show the new battery as "0% available (plugged in, not charging)" right after installation?
The fuel gauge IC in the T480s carries EEPROM data from the old cell and can misread the new cell's state of charge entirely on the first connection. Plug in the AC adapter, leave it connected for 10 minutes without touching the power button, then do a full cold boot. If the gauge still reads 0%, discharge to hibernate-cutoff and charge uninterrupted to 100% — this forces the controller to resample the new cell and the percentage will correct itself.
The T480s battery stops charging at exactly 80% and won't go higher — is the replacement cell faulty?
It is not a cell fault. The T480s BIOS includes a charge threshold feature that caps charging at 80% when Conservation Mode is active. Open Lenovo Vantage, go to Power → Battery Charge Threshold, and confirm the upper limit is set to 100%. If Vantage is not installed, enter the BIOS (F1 at boot), navigate to Config → Power, and disable the charge threshold from there.
After fitting the replacement, the system information panel shows a different Wh rating than what the battery label says — which number is correct?
System information reads the Wh value stored in the cell's EEPROM, which reflects the OEM-rated figure from the original firmware. The label on the physical cell shows the actual measured capacity of the new chemistry. These two numbers can differ by a few watt-hours and both can be accurate — they are measuring different things. The EEPROM value will recalibrate toward the real cell capacity after two or three full discharge and charge cycles.
