After one complete cycle, the health warning clears and the reported capacity aligns with the actual 41.96Wh rating.

The fuel gauge IC on the X1 Helix needs several charge-discharge cycles to calibrate against a new cell's chemistry. It carries reference data from the old cell in its memory, so voltage readings against the new cell produce erratic state-of-charge calculations. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by uninterrupted charges to 100%. By the third cycle, the gauge IC has enough data points to track the new cell accurately and the jumping stops.

System info shows the battery Wh rating as lower than the 41.96Wh listed — is this a spec mismatch?

The Wh figure shown in Windows or Lenovo Vantage is pulled from the EEPROM on the cell, and the EEPROM value can differ slightly from the actual chemistry rating until the BIOS completes a learn cycle. The physical cell in this battery is rated at 41.96Wh. Complete one full discharge-to-hibernate and one full uninterrupted charge, and the BIOS will update the reported Wh value to match the actual cell capacity.

The new battery stopped charging at 80% and won't go higher — charger is working fine on other devices.

Lenovo ThinkPad BIOS includes a charge threshold feature — often called Conservation Mode — that caps charging at 80% to reduce long-term cell stress. It is not a battery fault. Open Lenovo Vantage, go to Power, then Battery, and check whether Conservation Mode is enabled. Disable it and plug back in; the charge will resume and reach 100%.
