Fits LUX-TOOLS ABS 12Li 396951 cordless drill, replaces OEM battery ABS 12Li.
10.8V, 2000mAh lithium-ion cell delivers consistent voltage under fastening loads and light drilling.
Slide-on connector seats flush into the tool's rear battery slot with positive latch lock.
We bench tested the BMS against trigger-pull motor inrush on the ABS 12Li platform — no cutoff events at nominal drill torque settings.
On first use, run the drill at half trigger for two cycles before maximum torque work — allows the BMS to profile motor inrush current thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

LUX-TOOLS ABS 12Li 396951 — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (ABS 12Li)

This is a 10.8V 2000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the LUX-TOOLS ABS 12Li cordless drill/driver (model 396951). It fits the original battery slot and runs the same voltage rail as the factory pack. Capacity is 2000mAh (21.6Wh), matching the OEM specification.

  • ABS 12Li 396951 platform fit: The 396951 drill uses a 10.8V pack with a specific four-contact connector and BMS handshake. This replacement matches that connector pinout and communicates with the tool's onboard protection circuit so the trigger-pull current limit functions as intended.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through motor-start inrush cycles on a 10.8V drill platform. The BMS held the overcurrent threshold correctly on repeated trigger pulls and returned to standby without tripping into lockout.
  • Break-in on the ABS 12Li: On first use, run the drill at half load — light fastening, no torque-limit screwdriving — for two full charge cycles before driving into hardwood or using maximum clutch settings. This lets the BMS profile the motor's inrush draw and set overcurrent thresholds accurately before heavy use.

BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush in the ABS 12Li

Every trigger pull on a compact drill produces a current spike — the motor demands peak amperage in the first milliseconds before it reaches running speed. On a new or recently stored pack, the BMS may read that spike as an overcurrent fault and cut the output before the motor turns. This is more common when the cell voltage is below 11V after storage. If the tool clicks and goes dead on trigger pull, put the pack on the charger for a full cycle first, then retry at half load.

Charger not recognising the pack after storage

Li-ion cells that sit unused for several months can drop below the charger's acceptance voltage threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. When that happens, the charger blinks an error or shows no activity instead of starting the charge cycle. Remove the pack, wait 60 seconds, and reinsert it to prompt the charger to retry. If it still won't accept the pack, check the terminal voltage with a multimeter — a reading below 8V across the pack terminals means the cells have discharged past safe recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ABS 12Li drill cuts out immediately when I pull the trigger — is the battery faulty?

This is almost always a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead cell. The motor-start inrush current on a compact 10.8V drill spikes hard in the first milliseconds, and a new or stored pack's BMS can misread that as a fault before it has profiled the motor load. Put the pack on the charger for a full cycle, then start the tool at light load — no torque resistance — for the first few trigger pulls. If the cutout stops after one or two light-load cycles, the BMS has calibrated correctly and the pack is fine.

The drill feels weak and bogs down halfway through a screw — what's happening?

That's voltage sag — the cell voltage drops under sustained load and the tool loses torque before the BMS trips. It happens when contact resistance is high at the battery terminals or when cells have aged from repeated shallow cycling. Clean the pack terminals and the tool's battery contacts with a dry cloth, then check whether the issue persists. If sag continues on a new pack, measure the terminal voltage under load — it should stay above 9.5V during normal fastening.

The drill runs fine indoors but cuts out or feels sluggish outside in winter — is this a pack defect?

Not a defect — Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which reduces the current the cells can deliver before the BMS trips. The ABS 12Li's compact pack has limited thermal mass, so cold affects it faster than larger packs. Warm the battery to room temperature before use — carry it in a jacket pocket for 15 minutes. If the tool still bogs at temperatures below 5°C, keep a second pack warm as a swap while the first one recovers.
