Fits Microtac Infinity SA9800 medical devices, replaces OEM part MED585.
4.8V, 700mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers 3.36Wh — meets original power envelope for cordless diagnostic operation.
Connector type and orientation match OEM pack; physical fit confirmed on SA9800 housing without modification.
We bench-tested charge acceptance on a fresh cell — BMS accepted full voltage, no fault codes on insertion or first cycle.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption — medical devices run BMS verification at startup, and interrupting this sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Microtac Infinity SA9800 — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (MED585)

This is a 4.8V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Microtac Infinity SA9800 portable medical diagnostic instrument. Part number MED585. It restores cordless operation to the SA9800 when the original cell has lost capacity or failed entirely.

  • SA9800 platform fit: The Infinity SA9800 uses a dedicated cell pack with a specific connector orientation and BMS handshake tied to the 4.8V Ni-MH chemistry. Substituting a different voltage or chemistry will cause the device to reject the battery or fail self-test on startup.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the SA9800's charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted the pack, completed charge termination normally, and passed the device's power-on verification sequence without triggering a fault code.
  • Post-swap startup protocol: After installing this battery, let the SA9800 complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The BMS runs a chemistry verification step at boot. Cutting power during that window logs a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.

SA9800 not completing boot sequence after battery swap

The SA9800 runs a BMS verification cycle during startup that checks cell voltage against expected Ni-MH thresholds. A new cell shipped in partial state of charge may read below the minimum threshold the device expects at boot, causing the sequence to stall or abort. This is not a fault with the cell itself — it is a charge state issue. Charge the new battery fully before the first power-on, then allow the boot sequence to run uninterrupted to completion.

Charge indicator not reaching 100% on first charge

The SA9800's charge IC applies a conservative termination threshold on cells it has not yet profiled. On the first charge cycle, the indicator may stop at 80–90% and hold there. This is the charge controller applying a reduced top-off current until it maps the cell's internal resistance. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle and the charge IC recalibrates. After that cycle, the indicator should reach full charge consistently at the expected voltage of approximately 5.5–5.6V across the pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

The SA9800 is alarming low battery immediately after I just charged the new battery — what's wrong?

The device's BMS compares cell voltage against a threshold calibrated for a profiled Ni-MH pack. A new cell on its first cycle hasn't passed that profile check yet, so the alarm trips even at a full state of charge. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle on the SA9800 before clinical use. After that cycle, the BMS learn sequence completes and the alarm clears.

The SA9800 won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in the drawer for a few months — is the cell dead?

Ni-MH cells self-discharge in storage, and if the pack drops below roughly 4.0V the SA9800's BMS enters a protection state and refuses to boot. The cell is not necessarily dead. Place it on charge immediately and leave it for a full charge cycle without attempting to power on the device. Once voltage recovers above the BMS recovery threshold, the device will boot normally.

My SA9800 is shutting off unexpectedly during a procedure — this didn't happen with the old battery.

New Ni-MH cells have higher internal resistance in the first 10 cycles, which causes a sharper voltage sag under the SA9800's active load. The device interprets that sag as a critically low cell and triggers a protective shutdown. This is not a defective battery — it is expected behaviour during the break-in period. Complete 5–10 full charge-discharge cycles and the cell's internal resistance drops, eliminating the mid-use cutoff.
