Fits BCL-D20 portable fax handsets and replaces OEM part numbers BCL-BT10 and BCL-BT20.
3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH cell delivers sufficient voltage for modem handshakes and sustained transmission cycles.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a single locking tab on the left edge.
We bench-tested this cell at full charge into a BCL-D20 load bank; BMS accepted the pack and delivered steady 3.6V through a simulated multi-page fax session.
Charge fully before a fax transmission — portable fax machines draw peak current during modem handshake and scanning phases, and a partial charge may cut transmission mid-cycle.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Mobilteil BCL-D20 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BCL-BT10)

This 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the BCL-BT10 and BCL-BT20 cells in the Mobilteil BCL-D20 portable fax handset. It fits the BCL-D20 series directly and matches the original voltage and connector. Capacity is 700mAh (2.52Wh), identical to the factory specification.

  • BCL-D20 series fit: The BCL-D20 handset uses a single Ni-MH cell at 3.6V. Both the BCL-BT10 and BCL-BT20 share the same voltage rail, connector pinout, and physical envelope — this replacement covers both part numbers without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the BCL-D20 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and voltage held stable across both idle standby and active modem-draw phases.
  • Pre-session charging for fax transmission: Charge the battery to full before starting a multi-page fax session. The BCL-D20 pulls peak current during the modem handshake and scanner phases simultaneously — a partially charged cell can drop below the minimum voltage mid-transmission and terminate the session.

Fax cutting out mid-transmission on the BCL-D20

The BCL-D20 combines scanner draw, modem signalling, and thermal printer output during an active fax send. This stacked current demand can deplete a degraded or partially charged Ni-MH cell faster than the handset's low-battery indicator shows. When cell voltage drops below approximately 3.0V under load, the handset drops the modem connection and terminates the transmission. A fresh cell at full charge eliminates this voltage sag under combined load.

BCL-D20 showing full charge but dying immediately on use

Ni-MH cells that have been repeatedly shallow-cycled develop voltage depression — the cell reports a full state of charge but collapses quickly once load is applied. The BCL-D20 charger reads surface voltage, not true capacity, so the indicator is misleading on a degraded cell. This is not a charger fault. Replacing the cell and allowing one full charge cycle before use restores accurate capacity. After fitting this replacement, charge uninterrupted until the handset indicates complete — do not interrupt the first cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My BCL-D20 won't start a fax transmission even though it shows charged — what's happening?

The modem handshake on the BCL-D20 draws a sharp current spike at the moment dialling begins. If the cell voltage can't hold above roughly 3.2V under that initial load, the handset cuts the attempt before the first page transmits. This is a cell issue, not a line or handset fault. Fit a fresh battery, charge fully, then retry the transmission.

The BCL-D20 battery drains much faster than it used to during fax sessions — is something drawing extra power?

Active fax sending stacks three simultaneous loads: the document scanner, the thermal print head on the receiving end, and the modem. A Ni-MH cell that has lost even 15–20% of its original capacity will show this drain rate quickly under that combined draw. The original cell in most BCL-D20 units degrades noticeably after 18–24 months of regular use. Replace the cell and the drain rate returns to normal — no settings change is needed.

I fitted a new battery but the BCL-D20 still won't charge past about halfway — what do I check?

Ni-MH chargers in devices like the BCL-D20 use delta-V detection to identify a full cell — if the cell voltage doesn't rise at the expected rate, the charger may terminate early. Make sure the battery contacts in the handset are clean and making firm contact; oxidised contacts create resistance that distorts the voltage signal the charger reads. Wipe the contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the battery, and start a fresh charge cycle from zero. If the cell reaches full charge on the next cycle, the contact was the fault.
