Li-ion cells self-discharge over time, and if the replacement battery dropped below 2.5V per cell during storage, the BMS will have entered lockout mode to prevent damage. The phone won't power on and may not respond to a charger at all. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a USB port — and leave it for 20 to 30 minutes without pressing the power button. Fast charging stopped working on my Cynus T8 after I put in the replacement battery — why?
On the first charge cycle after a cell swap, some charge controllers won't negotiate a high-current protocol until the BMS has completed at least one full handshake at standard current. This is normal behaviour. Charge the phone once at standard speed using the original wall adapter — not a third-party fast charger — and let it reach 100% without unplugging early. On the second cycle, fast charging should resume as the BMS confirms cell impedance is within the expected range for high-current input.
My Cynus T8 gets noticeably warm near the battery during the first few charges — is that a fault?
New Li-ion cells typically have slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, which means more energy converts to heat during the initial charge cycles. This is expected and reduces after three to five cycles as the cell's impedance settles. Keep the phone out of a case for the first two or three charges to let heat dissipate freely. If the back of the phone becomes too hot to hold comfortably, disconnect the charger and let it cool to room temperature before resuming — then check that the charge IC is not stuck in a continuous top-up loop above 4.2V.
