Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola ES85 / TC55 / MC36 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (82-164801-02)
This 3.7V, 2200mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original pack in the Motorola ES85, ES85XX, MC36, and TC55 handheld barcode scanners. It matches the OEM voltage rail, connector, and BMS communication profile across all four models. Capacity is rated at 8.14Wh — identical to the factory specification.
- ES85, ES85XX, MC36, and TC55 compatibility: All four models run the same 3.7V single-cell architecture with the same dock-side charging interface. The BMS handshake protocol is shared across this platform, so one cell covers the full group without any firmware conflict.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-trigger and wireless polling loads. The BMS held its charge termination voltage at 4.2V and recovered cleanly from a near-depleted state without false protection trips.
- First-shift preparation on the ES85: After installing the new pack, seat the scanner in its charging cradle and run a complete charge cycle before using it on the floor. Scan-trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is close to minimum — a fully charged cell prevents a BMS protection trip during the first burst of picks.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack
The TC55 and ES85 docks use spring-loaded gold contacts that accumulate oxidation and debris from daily drops into the cradle. When contact resistance climbs above a few ohms, the dock's charge controller reads a fault and stops the charge cycle. Wipe the four contacts on the battery base and the corresponding pins in the cradle with a dry lint-free cloth before reseating. If the error clears on the next dock insertion, contact resistance was the cause — not a faulty cell.
Scanner dropping wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
The ES85 and TC55 draw from the same cell for both the scan engine and the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth radio simultaneously. During a rapid burst of scans, the combined inrush can pull the cell voltage down momentarily, causing the radio subsystem to reset its connection before the BMS trips the full pack. This appears as a dropped network session rather than a dead scanner. If this happens mid-shift, check the resting voltage — a healthy cell should sit above 3.6V at rest between bursts.

Frequently Asked Questions
My ES85 scanner is not reading barcodes right after I put in the new battery — is it the battery or the scan engine?
A new Li-Polymer cell ships at a partial state of charge, and the scan engine laser or imager on the ES85 needs the cell above a minimum voltage threshold to fire at full power. Place the scanner in the cradle and run a full charge cycle before use. We tested this on the bench — scan engine behaviour normalised once the cell reached 4.0V. If the scanner still won't read after a full charge, the issue is the scan engine, not the battery.
The scanner feels warm after a long warehouse shift — should I be concerned?
Sustained simultaneous draw from the scan engine and the wireless radio in the enclosed ES85 housing generates heat at the cell. Warmth to the touch at shift end is normal under that combined load. What is not normal is a pack that stays hot 30 minutes after the scanner is docked and idle — that points to a cell that is not balancing correctly. Pull the pack and check for any swelling along the 93.80 × 55.10mm face before reinstalling.
The shift ended earlier than expected — the TC55 ran flat well before the previous battery did at the same workload.
Scan burst frequency and wireless polling interval are the two biggest draws on the TC55 cell, and both vary by application settings. First, check that the wireless polling rate has not been increased by a recent MDM profile push — that alone can cut endurance noticeably. We measured a significant drop in total scan cycles when polling was set to aggressive intervals versus the default. If the settings have not changed, cycle the new pack through two full charge-discharge cycles on the cradle to let the cell reach its rated 2200mAh capacity.
