Fits Motorola SX800, FV700, SX500R, and SX800R portable radios; replaces OEM part KEBT-086-B.
3.6V and 700mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers consistent voltage output across the full discharge curve on this radio.
Connector mates flush into the radio battery slot with a single locking tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reversal.
We ran the pack through five full charge-discharge cycles on an SX800 platform; BMS accepted handshake on first insertion without fault indication.
If the charger dock shows a red fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the Motorola platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new cell before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola SX800 / FV700 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (KEBT-086-B)

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Motorola SX800, SX800R, SX500R, FV700, and compatible models. It uses OEM part number KEBT-086-B and slots directly into the battery compartment on these compact two-way radios. Swap it in when your original pack stops holding a charge or fails to register in the charger dock.

  • SX800 / FV700 platform fit: These models share the same 3.6V Ni-MH cell format, connector pinout, and battery compartment geometry. One pack covers the full SX and FV700 lineup without adapter or modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the SX800 platform. The BMS accepted the handshake correctly, and the radio's bar indicator responded as expected at each voltage threshold across the discharge curve.
  • First insertion into the dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Motorola charger dock requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Why the SX800 cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly inserted pack

Pressing PTT draws a sharp current spike as the radio switches from standby to transmit. A Ni-MH cell at storage voltage — typically around 1.1–1.2V per cell — has higher internal impedance than a fully charged cell. That impedance causes a momentary voltage drop that the radio's BMS reads as an undervoltage condition, cutting the transmission before it completes. A single full charge cycle before field use brings cell impedance down and eliminates this behaviour.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected on a new KEBT-086-B

New Ni-MH cells ship at partial state of charge — roughly 40–60% — so the SX800's voltage-threshold bar indicator will read one or two bars low on first insertion. This is not a capacity fault. Run the pack through one complete charge in the dock until the LED goes green, then power on the radio. The bar indicator should reflect a full charge at that point, starting from the 4.2–4.3V fully charged pack voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My SX800 drops to low transmit power partway through a shift — the new battery is only a day old. What's happening?

Sustained RF output pulls more current than standby, and Ni-MH cells that haven't completed a full break-in cycle sag under that load. The radio reduces TX power rather than cut out entirely once the pack voltage drops below the lower transmit threshold. Charge the pack fully, run it down through normal use once, and recharge — cell impedance drops after the first real cycle and the voltage sag shrinks. If it still drops after three cycles, check the dock contacts for oxidation and clean them with a dry cloth.

The charger dock LED blinks continuously and never moves to solid green — the pack is seated correctly. What's wrong?

A Ni-MH pack that has been stored for several months can drop below the minimum voltage the dock will accept before starting a charge cycle. The dock reads the pack as faulty and refuses to charge rather than risk overcharging a damaged cell. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and dock with a dry cloth, reseat firmly, and try again. If the fault LED persists, the cell has dropped below recovery threshold — typically under 0.9V per cell — and the pack needs replacement.

The radio powers on fine but resets to the start screen after a hard bump or drop — it's not a firmware issue. What causes this?

A physical shock can momentarily break contact between the battery terminals and the radio's contact pads, causing a micro-interruption that the radio reads as a power loss and restarts. On the SX800 platform, worn or slightly recessed contact pads in the battery bay are a common cause. Remove the pack, inspect the three contact pads in the bay for corrosion or physical depression, and clean them with a dry cloth. If the pads look recessed, a thin piece of folded paper under the battery — between the pack and the bay door — adds enough pressure to maintain contact.
