Fits Nvidia Shield K1 and Shield P1761W tablets, replacing OEM battery part number ST8.
This 3.8V, 4500mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers the same capacity as the original, sustaining gaming and media playback without voltage sag under combined WiFi and display load.
The connector seats flush into the battery bay with a single locking tab on the right edge; orientation is marked on the housing.
We bench-tested this cell in a Shield K1 under sustained GPU load — the BMS held steady at 3.8V, no early cutoff, no thermal trip.
After installation, discharge the tablet fully to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without interruption — this recalibrates the fuel gauge IC to the new cell and clears inaccurate percentage display.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nvidia Shield K1 / P1761W — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (ST8)

This is a 3.8V, 4500mAh Li-Polymer cell that replaces the original ST8 battery in the Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 and Shield P1761W. The Shield K1 is a gaming-focused Android tablet released in 2015, and this battery matches the OEM voltage, capacity, and physical footprint at 153.50 × 73.80 × 5.00mm. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds charge or shuts the tablet down early.

  • Shield K1 and P1761W compatibility: Both models use the same ST8 cell on the same 3.8V power rail with an identical connector and BMS handshake profile. One battery covers both variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Shield K1 board. The BMS accepted handshake on first connection, charge IC ramped normally, and no protection cutoff was triggered under gaming load.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration after swap: After fitting this battery, run the tablet down to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without unplugging. This forces the fuel gauge IC to recalibrate against the new cell and clears the inaccurate percentage readings that appear after any battery replacement.

Shield K1 shutting down between 15–25% remaining after battery swap

The fuel gauge IC on the Shield K1 retains calibration data from the old cell. When a new cell is installed, the IC's voltage-to-percentage map no longer matches the new cell's actual discharge curve. Under combined display-plus-WiFi load, voltage sags faster than the IC expects, triggering a low-voltage protection cutoff that the OS reads as a sudden shutdown. One full discharge-to-cutoff followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% resets this calibration and stops the early shutdowns.

Fast charging unavailable on the Shield K1 after fitting a new battery

The Shield K1's charge controller negotiates charge rate on the first accepted cycle after a new cell is detected. Until that cycle completes, the controller defaults to a conservative current limit and fast charge is not offered. Plug into the original Nvidia charger — not a third-party cable — and let the first charge run from near-zero to 100% without interruption. After that cycle finishes, fast charging resumes at the correct rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Shield K1 still shows the wrong battery percentage two days after fitting the new battery — will this fix itself?

It will not fix itself through normal use. The fuel gauge IC on the Shield K1 calibrates against cumulative charge data, and it is still reading against the old cell's profile. Run the tablet down until it shuts itself off automatically, then charge uninterrupted to 100% in one session. That single full cycle resets the IC and the percentage display stabilises.

The Shield K1 gets noticeably warm during the first few charges with the new battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. The charge IC runs a conditioning pass on a new cell during the first one to three cycles, drawing slightly more current than steady-state charging. Surface warmth during this period is normal and drops off after the first full cycle. If the tablet becomes too hot to hold or shuts down during charging, that is a separate issue — check that the charger output matches the 5V/2.4A spec on the original Nvidia adapter.

The percentage on my Shield K1 drops fast from 100% down to around 80%, then slows — is the new cell faulty?

The cell is not faulty. This is fuel gauge drift — the IC mapped the top 20% of the discharge curve against the old cell's internal resistance, which was higher than the new cell's. The new cell delivers charge more efficiently in that range, but the gauge does not know that yet. Run one complete discharge-to-shutoff and a full uninterrupted charge to 100%, and the drop rate across the top of the range will even out.
