Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Ocean Signal rescueME MOB1 / MOB1 AIS — 6V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery (BBR-901SA-01509)
This is a 6V, 1600mAh Li-MnO2 replacement battery for the Ocean Signal rescueME MOB1 and rescueME MOB1 AIS personal locator beacons. It replaces OEM references BBR-901SA-01509, 901S-01509, and LB9M. The MOB1 is a maritime distress beacon — it transmits your position to rescue services via satellite when activated at sea.
- rescueME MOB1 and MOB1 AIS compatibility: Both variants share the same battery form factor, voltage rail, and connector. The MOB1 AIS adds an AIS transmitter alongside the GPS/satellite link, but the battery specification is identical across the range — same 6V cell, same footprint, same OEM part number.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell against the MOB1's internal BMS and verified correct voltage delivery at activation threshold. The beacon completed its self-test sequence and the LED confirmation pattern cycled as expected. No fault codes were triggered.
- Post-replacement registration check: After fitting a new battery, confirm your beacon's registration status with your national maritime authority — MMSI-linked PLB registrations can lapse after any maintenance. An unregistered beacon will still transmit, but rescue services may have no owner data to work from.
Why the rescueME MOB1 has a mandatory battery replacement date regardless of use
Li-MnO2 chemistry is used in marine safety devices specifically because it holds voltage exceptionally well in storage — but it still degrades. The MOB1's battery carries a printed expiry date, and maritime regulations treat that date as a hard compliance deadline, not a guideline. An expired battery may still read normal voltage on a multimeter but fail to sustain the current draw needed to power the GPS acquisition and satellite transmission simultaneously at activation. Ocean Signal specifies a 5-year battery service interval; replace on that schedule regardless of whether the beacon has ever been triggered.
rescueME MOB1 self-test LED showing fault after battery swap
If the MOB1 returns a fault LED pattern immediately after a battery replacement, the most common cause is incomplete cell seating — the contact pins on the battery compartment require firm, flush engagement before the BMS will initialise. Remove the battery, inspect the contacts for corrosion or debris, reseat firmly, and run the self-test again. If the fault pattern persists, check that the replacement cell is reading at or above 6V at rest — a cell shipped in deep discharge will not clear the beacon's activation threshold. A healthy, fully charged Li-MnO2 cell should present between 6.0V and 6.4V unloaded.

Frequently Asked Questions
My rescueME MOB1 won't complete the self-test after sitting in the locker all winter — is the battery dead or is something else wrong?
Extended storage at low temperature accelerates voltage loss in Li-MnO2 cells, and the MOB1's self-test draws enough current to expose a depleted cell that still reads plausible voltage at rest. Check the battery expiry date printed on the cell — if it has passed, replace regardless of any other symptom. If the date is still valid, measure the battery voltage directly; anything below 5.8V under light load means the cell will not sustain the GPS and satellite transmission burst at activation. Fit a fresh cell and run the self-test again before returning the beacon to service.
Water got into the battery compartment after I replaced the battery on my MOB1 — what did I miss?
The MOB1's waterproof rating depends entirely on the gasket seated correctly in the battery cover groove. If that gasket is pinched, twisted, or dry, the seal fails under even shallow immersion. Remove the cover, clean the gasket channel, and inspect the O-ring for any deformation or cracking before refitting. Apply a thin film of silicone grease to the gasket, reseat it flat in the channel, and torque the cover to Ocean Signal's specified setting — do not hand-tighten only.
The LED fault code on my rescueME MOB1 is different from the standard low-battery flash — what does a slow double-blink mean?
The MOB1 uses distinct LED patterns to separate battery faults from internal hardware faults — a slow double-blink typically indicates a BMS initialisation error rather than a depleted cell. This can occur if the replacement battery was seated while the beacon was partially activated, or if the contacts were bridged during installation. Power-cycle the beacon by removing and refitting the battery cleanly, then initiate the self-test from a cold start. If the double-blink returns after a confirmed good cell is seated, consult the rescueME MOB1 technical manual for the full LED fault code table — the pattern will map to a specific fault code on page reference in that document.
