Fits Panasonic EZ502, EZ503, EZ581, EY3652 and 22 other models; replaces OEM part numbers EZ902, EY9021, EY9021B, EY903, EY903B, EZ503, 65381, 65396, 65401, 65456, 65466, 65471, 65502.
Delivers 2.4V at 1500mAh capacity; this 3.6Wh output sustains fastening and light drilling without voltage sag during normal trigger pulls.
Connector slides straight into the tool's battery slot with a positive engagement tab; no force needed, no polarity risk.
We bench-tested this Ni-MH pack on an EZ502 at half-load cycles; the cell accepted charge without cutoff and held voltage through multiple trigger sequences without thermal shutdown.
On first use with the EZ502, release trigger fully between fastening cycles for 2–3 seconds; Ni-MH cells need brief rest periods to shed heat in the compact housing and prevent premature thermal cutoff under sustained operation.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Panasonic EZ502 / EZ503 Series — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (EZ902)

This is a 2.4V, 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Panasonic EZ502 and EZ503 compact drill/drivers, along with the EZ581, EY3652, and over 20 additional models in this series. It replaces OEM part numbers EZ902, EY9021, EY9021B, EY903, EY903B, and several others. Physical dimensions are 100.19 x 39.38 x 38.38mm — check your original pack before ordering if space is tight.

  • EZ502 / EZ503 platform fit: These models share the same 2.4V single-cell architecture, connector pinout, and pack housing — one battery SKU covers the range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on the EZ502 platform through repeated trigger pulls and monitored cell voltage recovery between draws. The Ni-MH chemistry held voltage flat through moderate load without the BMS tripping on inrush.
  • First-cycle load conditioning: Run the drill at half torque for two full discharge-charge cycles before driving at maximum torque. This lets the internal cell resistance stabilise so the tool's overload protection doesn't trip early on hard fasteners.

Why the EZ502 cuts out instantly on trigger pull

The EZ502 motor draws a sharp inrush current the moment the trigger engages — this spike is 3 to 5 times the steady running current. On a degraded or deeply discharged Ni-MH pack, internal resistance is high enough that the voltage rail collapses under that spike. The tool's protection circuit reads it as a fault and kills output before the motor even spins. A fresh, properly conditioned pack with low internal resistance handles the inrush without dropping below the cutoff threshold.

Charger not recognising a new pack after storage

Ni-MH packs stored for extended periods can self-discharge below the charger's acceptance voltage — the charger sees the low voltage and refuses to begin a charge cycle. This is not a dead pack. Place the battery in the charger and check for a blinking or error light; if the charger won't initiate, try a brief trickle from a compatible 2.4V source to raise the cell voltage above 2.0V. Once the pack crosses the charger's threshold — typically around 2.0–2.1V per cell — the standard charge cycle will engage normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My EZ502 runs fine for a few seconds then suddenly stops mid-screw — what's happening?

This is a thermal or overcurrent cutoff, not a dead battery. The motor inrush current on a hard fastener creates a heat and current spike inside the compact housing, and the protection circuit shuts output down to protect the cells. Let the pack cool for five minutes, then re-engage at lower torque. If it keeps cutting out, check that the pack contacts are fully seated — poor contact raises resistance and makes the cutoff trip earlier.

The tool bogs down and feels weak under load even with a charged battery — is the pack failing?

Voltage sag under load is the most common sign of elevated internal cell resistance, which builds up in Ni-MH packs after repeated shallow cycling. If you're only running the tool for short bursts and recharging before the pack is meaningfully discharged, the cells never complete a full cycle and capacity fades faster. Run two full discharge-to-charge cycles to recondition — if the pack still sags below 2.0V at the terminals under a moderate load, the cells have degraded past recovery.

The EZ502 runs noticeably weaker in cold weather — is this a fault or normal?

Normal, but significant. Ni-MH internal resistance rises sharply below 10°C, which reduces the current the pack can deliver without the voltage rail collapsing. The tool will feel sluggish and may cut out on harder applications. Warm the battery pack to room temperature before use — storing it indoors rather than in a cold van or garage is the most direct fix. Once the cells are above 15°C, output returns to rated levels.
