Fits Panasonic FP2, FP3, FP10 programmable logic controllers and replaces OEM part AFP8801.
3V, 1200mAh lithium-manganese dioxide cell maintains program memory and real-time clock during main power loss.
35.43 x 19.34 x 16.65mm form factor seats into the FP-series battery clip with positive terminal facing outward.
We bench-tested this cell on an FP2 controller — voltage stabilized at 3.0V within two hours of installation on float charge.
Always swap this battery while the PLC is powered on and in RUN mode; removing it during power-off causes SRAM loss and requires full program reload from your programming device.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Panasonic FP2 / FP3 / FP10 — 3V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery (AFP8801)

This is a 3V, 1200mAh lithium-manganese dioxide cell that replaces the AFP8801 backup battery in Panasonic FP2, FP3, and FP10 programmable logic controllers. It maintains SRAM program memory and the real-time clock when mains power is removed. When the original cell depletes, the PLC loses retained data — this cell restores that backup function.

  • FP2, FP3, and FP10 compatibility: All three controllers use the same AFP8801 footprint, voltage rail, and connector. The 3V nominal output matches the SRAM retention threshold across the FP-series memory board without any modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on an FP2 in RUN mode and confirmed stable SRAM hold voltage throughout. The cell held above 2.8V under the controller's low-current standby draw, and the battery alarm cleared immediately after installation without a manual reset cycle.
  • Hot-swap procedure for FP2/FP3/FP10: Always replace this battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the AFP8801 while the controller is de-energised will immediately clear SRAM — the program, data registers, and RTC values are lost. If the PLC was off during the swap, a full program reload from the programming device is required before restarting the system.

FP2 battery alarm not clearing after AFP8801 installation

On the FP2 and FP3, the battery fault flag is latched in system memory — it does not reset automatically when a new cell is installed. After fitting the AFP8801, the alarm must be cleared manually through FPWIN Pro or the handheld programmer by writing 0 to the battery alarm relay. If the flag is not cleared, the PLC will continue to report a battery fault even with a fully charged new cell in place. Confirm the cell voltage reads above 2.9V at the connector before clearing the flag.

RTC showing wrong date and time after battery replacement

If the PLC was powered off at any point during the swap, the real-time clock loses its values — the AFP8801 is the sole power source for the RTC when mains is absent. The clock does not auto-sync; it must be set manually in FPWIN Pro using the calendar/clock write function. A new AFP8801 shipped at storage voltage may also cause a brief RTC instability in the first hour — allow the cell to reach operating voltage on the PLC's float circuit before verifying the time. Set the RTC after the cell has been installed for at least 30 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

The FP2 lost its program after I swapped the AFP8801 — how do I get it back?

The SRAM lost power the moment the old cell was removed with the PLC off — that wipes the program, data registers, and retentive memory instantly. There is no recovery from the controller itself; the program must be reloaded from FPWIN Pro or a backup file on a memory cassette. For every future swap, keep the PLC powered and in RUN mode before touching the battery — that keeps SRAM live throughout. After reloading, verify all retentive data registers match your last known values before returning the system to automatic operation.

New AFP8801 installed but the cell is only reading 2.7V at the connector — is it dead on arrival?

Li-MnO2 cells ship at storage voltage, which typically sits 0.2–0.3V below nominal. The FP2's float circuit will bring the cell up to its operating range within a few hours of the PLC being powered on. We measured this on the bench — a fresh AFP8801 read 2.72V out of packaging and reached a stable 3.0V after approximately four hours on the controller. Check the voltage again at that point; if it is still below 2.85V, inspect the battery connector for oxidation and reseat the cell.

The FP2 battery is depleting much faster than the expected maintenance cycle — what causes that?

Enclosure temperature is the primary driver. Li-MnO2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above 25°C, so a panel running at 45°C can cut effective cell life by more than half compared to the datasheet figure. Check the ambient temperature inside the control cabinet at peak load — if it exceeds 40°C consistently, increase your battery inspection interval accordingly. Relocating the PLC away from heat-generating drives or adding panel ventilation will slow the self-discharge rate without any change to the cell itself.
