This is an 11.1V, 3400mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Philips SureSigns VM1 portable patient monitor. It also fits the Vsi, VS2+, and Monitor VS1 platforms sharing the same battery bay and connector. Use it to maintain continuous vital sign monitoring during patient transport or when AC power is not available.

  • VM1 / VS2+ platform fitment: These monitors share a common 11.1V three-cell Li-ion architecture, the same keyed connector, and a BMS handshake protocol that authenticates chemistry and voltage rail before the device will power on. One replacement cell fits all listed models without adapter or modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through the VM1 power-on self-test sequence and monitored the BMS charge/discharge handshake. The protection circuit responded correctly to load steps from the monitor's internal pump and display backlight without triggering a false fault.
  • Post-swap self-test protocol: After installing this battery, let the VM1 complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification pass at startup. Powering off mid-sequence causes a battery fault flag that persists until the next clean, uninterrupted boot.

Why the VM1 reports low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge

The VM1's charge IC applies a conservative acceptance threshold during the first charge cycle on a new cell. If cell voltage hasn't stabilised above the OEM reference point — typically around 12.4V fully charged — the BMS flags the pack as marginal. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle and the BMS recalibrates its threshold to the actual cell chemistry. The alarm clears on the next charge after that cycle completes.

VM1 won't power on after battery sat in storage

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the pack drops below the BMS recovery threshold — approximately 9V for an 11.1V three-cell pack — the protection circuit locks out power delivery and the monitor shows no signs of life. Connect the battery to the VM1 with the AC adapter plugged in and leave it for 30 to 60 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC will trickle-charge the cells back above the recovery threshold, at which point the BMS unlocks and normal charging resumes.

The cell is not faulty. Run the monitor on battery until the device signals low, then charge it fully to 12.4V. The alarm stops triggering after that calibration cycle completes.

The VM1 powers off unexpectedly mid-monitoring session — new battery installed, first few uses

During the first 10 cycles, a new Li-ion cell delivers voltage with slightly higher internal resistance than a settled cell. The VM1's load profile — NIBP pump cycling, SpO2 LED pulsing, display backlight — creates current spikes that cause momentary voltage sag, which the BMS reads as a low-voltage cutoff condition. This resolves as the cell beds in across those first cycles. Until then, keep AC power connected during high-acuity monitoring sessions.

The charge indicator on the VM1 won't reach 100% on the first charge with the new battery — it stops at 90–95%

The VM1 charge IC applies a reduced termination current on the first charge to protect an unfamiliar cell's chemistry. This is a deliberate conservative limit, not a capacity defect. Complete a full discharge and then a second uninterrupted charge cycle. On the second charge, the IC relaxes its termination threshold and the indicator reaches 100%.
