Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Physio-Control Lifepak 9 Series — 16V Sealed Lead Acid Replacement Battery (803704-03)
This is a 16V, 2500mAh sealed lead-acid replacement battery for the Physio-Control Lifepak 9, 9A, 9B, and 9P portable defibrillators. It replaces OEM part numbers 803704-03 and 21300-002259. Voltage and capacity match the original specification from the product data.
- Lifepak 9 series compatibility: The 9, 9A, 9B, and 9P share the same 16V battery rail, connector footprint, and BMS handshake protocol. One battery covers all four variants without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through a charge-discharge sequence and monitored the BMS handshake at startup. The self-test completed cleanly and the charge IC accepted the cell without flagging a chemistry mismatch.
- Post-installation self-test protocol: After swapping this battery in, let the Lifepak 9 complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The BMS runs a verification sequence at startup — cutting power mid-cycle triggers a false battery fault that latches until the next clean reboot.
Why the Lifepak 9 fails its self-test after a battery swap
The Lifepak 9 runs an internal self-test at every power-on that checks battery voltage against a stored threshold. A freshly installed sealed lead-acid cell that has not completed one full charge-discharge cycle may sit at a resting voltage that falls just short of that threshold. The BMS has no way to distinguish a partially charged new cell from a degraded old one — it reads voltage, not cycle history. Run one complete charge before placing the unit back in service, and the self-test will pass on the next boot.
Charge indicator not reaching 100% on the first charge after replacement
This is normal behaviour for a new sealed lead-acid cell on its first charge cycle. The charge IC in the Lifepak 9 applies a conservative current limit when it does not recognise a cell with an established charge history, which causes the indicator to plateau before reaching the full-charge state. The cell needs one complete charge-discharge cycle before the charge IC recalibrates its endpoint. After that first full cycle, the indicator should reach 100% and hold there at a resting voltage of approximately 13.5–13.8V open circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Lifepak 9 is alarming low battery immediately after I put in a freshly charged replacement — what is going on?
The Lifepak 9's BMS compares resting cell voltage against a threshold calibrated to a conditioned OEM cell. A new sealed lead-acid battery that has not completed its first full charge-discharge cycle can sit just below that threshold even after a full charge, triggering the low battery alarm. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle on the new battery before reinstalling it. After that conditioning cycle, resting voltage should hold above the BMS cutoff at approximately 13.5V and the alarm will not fire.
The Lifepak 9 is shutting off unexpectedly during use — is this a battery problem or a device problem?
A new sealed lead-acid cell under the load profile of a defibrillator charge cycle experiences higher voltage sag in the first 5–10 cycles than it will after the cell has conditioned. If the sag pulls the voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold mid-use, the device shuts off as a protection event — it is not a device fault, and it is not a permanent battery fault. Complete at least one full charge-discharge cycle before clinical use, and monitor voltage sag across the next several cycles. If shutdowns persist beyond 10 cycles, measure open-circuit voltage after a full charge — it should read 13.5V or above.
The Lifepak 9 will not power on at all after the replacement battery was stored for several months before installation — how do I recover it?
Sealed lead-acid cells self-discharge at roughly 3–5% per month in storage. A cell stored for several months before installation can drop below the BMS recovery threshold, which causes the device to refuse to power on entirely. Put the battery on a standalone 16V SLA charger — not the device's internal charger — and allow it to reach a full charge before attempting to boot the Lifepak 9. Once the cell returns to a resting voltage above 13.5V, reinstall it and let the device complete its full power-on self-test before clinical use.
