Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Porter Cable PCC600 Series — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PCC680L)
This is an 18V 2000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for Porter Cable 18V cordless tools. It fits the PCC600, PCC601, PCC601LA, PCC620B, and over 38 additional models sharing the same 18V battery platform. Voltage and connector match OEM spec — no adapter needed.
- PCC600 series platform: These models share a common 18V rail, BMS handshake protocol, and slide-on connector. One battery works across drills, impact drivers, and saws in the same lineup without any modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on a PCC601 drill and a circular saw under full load. The BMS handled motor-start inrush without false tripping and held a stable voltage rail through sustained cuts.
- Motor inrush break-in: On first use, run your drill or saw at half load for two cycles before pushing full torque. This lets the BMS log the motor's inrush current profile and set overcurrent thresholds accurately — reducing nuisance trips later.
BMS Cutoff on Drill and Saw Motor-Start Inrush Surge
When you pull the trigger on a drill or circular saw, current spikes sharply before the motor reaches operating speed. On a new or cold pack, this spike can exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold and cut power instantly. The protection circuit reads the surge as a fault, not normal start-up load. Letting the pack warm to room temperature before use and breaking in at partial load reduces the frequency of these trips.
Charger Blinking Red on a Pack Returned from Storage
Li-ion cells that sit unused for several months can drop below the charger's minimum acceptance voltage — typically around 2.5V per cell. When the charger detects voltage this low, it blinks red and refuses to enter normal charge mode. Some Porter Cable chargers have a recovery mode: leave the pack seated for 10–15 minutes and the charger may trickle charge the cells back above the acceptance threshold. If the red blink continues past 20 minutes, check individual cell voltage — any cell below 2.0V indicates an unrecoverable pack.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Porter Cable drill cuts out the instant I pull the trigger on a full-grip squeeze — battery feels fine otherwise. What's happening?
That's a BMS overcurrent trip from motor-start inrush current. The spike when a drill motor accelerates from zero can briefly exceed the protection threshold, especially on a new or cold pack. Let the battery warm to room temperature and run two half-load cycles before full torque applications. If it still trips on trigger pull, check the slide rail contacts for oxidation — high contact resistance amplifies the apparent current spike at the BMS sensor.
The circular saw runs fine for the first 30 seconds, then bogs down and feels weak — not a cutout, just loss of power. What causes that?
That's voltage sag under sustained load. As the cells heat up during a long cut, internal resistance rises and the voltage rail drops — the motor gets less voltage and loses torque. Clean the battery contact rails on both the pack and the saw with a dry cloth; corroded contacts add resistance and worsen the sag. If the contacts are clean, the cells may have degraded from repeated shallow cycling — check resting voltage after a full charge, it should read at or above 20.0V.
My Porter Cable 18V tools work noticeably weaker in the garage during winter. Is the battery failing or is this normal?
This is normal Li-ion behaviour. Below 5°C, internal resistance in lithium cells rises significantly, which reduces the voltage the pack can deliver under load. The battery is not failing — bring it indoors to warm above 15°C before use and performance returns. Avoid charging a cold pack directly from freezing temperatures; let it sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes first, then charge.
