Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Porter Cable PCC600 Series — 20V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PCC680L)
This is a 20V Li-ion replacement battery for Porter Cable 20V MAX cordless tools, rated at 5000mAh (100Wh). It fits the PCC600, PCC601, PCC601LA, PCC620B, and 38 additional models in the Porter Cable 20V platform. OEM part numbers covered include PCC680L, PCC681L, PCC682L, PCC685L, and PCC685LP.
- 20V MAX platform fit: These models share a common 20V rail, battery latch geometry, and BMS handshake protocol across drills, impact drivers, and circular saws — one pack runs all of them without adapter changes.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through motor-start inrush cycles on a PCC601 drill and a circular saw. The BMS handled repeated high-current trigger pulls without tripping overcurrent protection, and cell balancing activated correctly at end of charge.
- Break-in load protocol: On first use, run the tool at half load for two cycles before applying full torque. This lets the BMS profile your motor's inrush current draw and set accurate overcurrent thresholds before you push the pack hard.
BMS cutoff on circular saw and drill motor-start inrush surge
When you pull the trigger on a circular saw or large drill, the motor draws a spike of current in the first 50–100 milliseconds — often 3–5x the running draw. If the BMS hasn't profiled that spike yet, it reads it as a fault and cuts the pack. This is more common with a brand-new or recently stored battery. Running two half-load cycles first gives the BMS enough current data to distinguish a normal start surge from an actual overcurrent event. After that, full-load trigger pulls work without interruption.
Charger blinks red and won't accept the pack after storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the pack sits long enough, cell voltage drops below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. The charger detects this as an out-of-range pack and signals a fault with a blinking red LED. The fix is to briefly connect and disconnect the pack to the charger five or six times in quick succession — this prompts many Porter Cable chargers to enter a recovery trickle-charge mode. Once cell voltage climbs above the acceptance floor, the charger switches to normal charge. If voltage has dropped below 2.0V per cell, recovery is unlikely.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Porter Cable drill cuts out the instant I pull the trigger on hard starts — is the battery failing?
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead pack. The motor's start inrush current spike briefly exceeds the BMS threshold, and the pack shuts down as a protective response. Run the battery through two light-load cycles first — this profiles the motor draw and raises the effective trip threshold for normal inrush. If cutouts stop after break-in cycles, the pack is fine.
The tool bogs down and loses torque under sustained load even though the battery shows a full charge indicator — what's happening?
That's voltage sag from rising contact resistance at the battery rail. Heat from sustained motor load increases resistance at the terminal contacts, and the pack voltage drops under draw — the charge indicator reads resting voltage, not loaded voltage. Clean the battery terminals and tool contacts with isopropyl alcohol, then check that the latch is seating the pack flush. If sag persists after cleaning, measure loaded terminal voltage — a healthy 20V pack should hold above 17V under moderate load.
The battery works fine in summer but the tool feels sluggish and weak in cold weather — is the capacity lower in the cold?
Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which limits how much current the pack can deliver to the motor — the cells aren't damaged, they're just physically slower to move charge in the cold. Warm the pack to room temperature before use, either indoors for 30 minutes or inside a jacket pocket on the job site. Once the cells are back above 10°C, power output returns to normal levels.
