Fits PowerSonic A19390-2 emergency lighting units; replaces OEM part BGN5500-5FWP-A800EC and OSA002.
6V, 5000mAh Ni-MH cell delivers 30Wh to sustain exit sign illumination during mains failure.
Connector aligns vertically into the A19390-2 battery slot with a single locking tab on top.
We bench-tested this cell in an A19390-2 fitting; charge controller accepted the BMS handshake within four hours and showed green.
Run a full manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the complete rated duration—this confirms the new cell accepts load and lets the charge controller register actual capacity before your next compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

PowerSonic A19390-2 — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BGN5500-5FWP-A800EC)

This is a 6V, 5000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the PowerSonic A19390-2 emergency lighting unit. It fits directly into the A19390-2 fitting and restores backup illumination during mains failure. Dimensions are 97.50 x 61.60 x 63.70mm — confirm clearance inside the housing before installation.

  • A19390-2 compatibility: The A19390-2 uses a 6V Ni-MH cell with a specific capacity threshold that the charge controller checks against. This cell matches the voltage rail and connector orientation, and the 5000mAh rating keeps the charge controller within its acceptance window during the initial float cycle.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and simulated mains failure to confirm the BMS accepted the cell and the fitting switched to emergency mode without fault. The cell held load across the full test duration without voltage sag triggering cutoff.
  • First test cycle after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This lets the charge controller register the new cell capacity and confirms the cell accepts load before your next scheduled compliance test.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

After months in storage, a Ni-MH cell arrives with a resting voltage lower than the fitting's float acceptance window. The A19390-2 charge controller interprets this low resting voltage as a fault condition and holds the red indicator. Leave the fitting powered for 12–24 hours undisturbed — the trickle charge will bring the cell voltage up into the acceptance range and the indicator will shift to green. If the red light persists past 24 hours, measure across the cell terminals; you should see at least 5.4V before the controller will register a healthy cell.

Emergency light dims partway through a duration test

A freshly installed cell that has not completed one full charge cycle will not deliver its rated capacity under load. When the fitting draws current during the test, the cell voltage drops early and the fitting dims or shuts off before the required duration is met. This is not a faulty cell — it is an uncharged one. Allow a full 24-hour charge before running any compliance test, then repeat the duration test with the cell at full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My A19390-2 just failed its annual duration test straight after I put in a new battery — did I get a dud cell?

Almost certainly not. A Ni-MH cell shipped from storage arrives partially discharged, and the A19390-2 charge controller needs a full 24-hour charge cycle before the cell can deliver its rated capacity under load. Running the duration test before that cycle completes will cause the light to dim or cut out early. Charge the fitting for a full 24 hours, then rerun the test.

The fitting's fault LED is still on even though I've confirmed the new battery is seated correctly — what's wrong?

Some A19390-2 fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and do not clear it automatically when a new cell is detected. The cell voltage also needs to climb above the float acceptance threshold before the controller registers a healthy cell. Power-cycle the fitting — switch off mains, wait 10 seconds, then restore mains power — and allow 12–24 hours for the cell to charge up to at least 5.4V before checking the indicator again.

The old battery in my A19390-2 looked swollen when I removed it — is this a sign the fitting itself is damaged?

Swelling in a Ni-MH cell is caused by prolonged overcharge, typically from a continuous trickle charge in a warm housing over several years. Before fitting the new cell, check the charge termination circuit by measuring the voltage across the terminals after 48 hours — it should stabilise and not continue rising past 7.2V. If the voltage keeps climbing above 7.2V, the charge controller is not terminating correctly and will damage the new cell the same way.
