Fits Profoto B1 and B1x AirTTL flash heads, replaces OEM part 100323 or 100399.
14.4V, 5000mAh lithium-ion cell powers flash cycles and capacitor recycling on location shoots.
Connector seats into the B1 battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab engages on insertion.
We bench-tested this pack through 40 full-power flash cycles; BMS held 14.4V stable under sustained capacitor recharge.
Power cycle the B1 flash head fully off before the first shot with a new cell — the BMS handshake initializes correctly only from a cold start, not mid-session hot swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Profoto B1 / B1X AirTTL Flash Heads — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (100323 / 100399)

This 14.4V, 5000mAh (72Wh) lithium-ion cell replaces OEM part numbers 100323 and 100399 in the Profoto B1 and B1X AirTTL flash heads. These are battery-powered monolight strobes used for location and studio photography. The battery drives both the capacitor recharge circuit and the head's control electronics between flash cycles.

  • B1 and B1X shared battery platform: Both flash heads run the same 14.4V rail and use an identical battery form factor and connector. The BMS on each head communicates charge state to the Profoto Air remote system — the replacement cell uses the same protocol, so remote battery readout functions normally.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through repeated full-power capacitor recharges on a B1 head. The BMS held voltage above the low-battery cutoff threshold through sustained burst sequences, and charge state reporting remained consistent across the dock and remote display.
  • First-fit power cycle on the B1 and B1X: After inserting a new cell, power the flash head fully off and back on before shooting. The BMS handshake that sets the charge state display initialises from a cold boot — swapping the battery mid-session without a full power cycle can cause the dock or remote to show an incorrect battery level.

Flash output stepping down after 10–15 full-power shots

At full power, the B1's capacitor pulls a high recharge current from the battery in a short window after each flash. If the cell's internal resistance is elevated — common in aged OEM cells — voltage sags during that recharge burst, and the head's protection circuit interprets the drop as low battery and steps the output down. This is not a fault in the head itself. A fresh cell with lower internal resistance sustains the voltage rail through the recharge spike. After fitting this replacement, run five full-power cycles to let the cell's internal resistance settle before judging output consistency.

Dock cycling between charge and ready LED without completing a charge

This symptom appears when the dock's BMS handshake with the battery does not complete cleanly — the dock reads an ambiguous state and toggles between charge and ready rather than committing to either. It happens most often after a battery swap without a full power cycle of the flash head. Remove the battery, leave the dock unplugged for 30 seconds, reinsert the cell, and reconnect the dock to mains. The handshake resets from a clean initialisation state and the charge LED should hold steady.

Frequently Asked Questions

My B1 is firing at full power but output starts dropping after about 12–15 shots — is the battery failing?

This is voltage sag under capacitor recharge current, not a failing head. At full power, the capacitor pulls a high recharge current in a short burst, and a cell with elevated internal resistance can't hold the voltage rail — the head steps output down as a protection response. Fit a fresh cell and run five full-power cycles to condition it before assessing output stability. If output holds steady after conditioning, the original cell's internal resistance was the cause.

Recycle time between flashes is noticeably slower on this new cell than my old one — is something wrong?

Higher internal resistance on an unconditioned cell slows the energy transfer rate during capacitor recharge, which extends recycle time. This is normal in the first few cycles and is not a defect. Run five to eight full-power charge-and-fire cycles and recycle time will shorten as the cell's internal resistance drops. If recycle time is still slow after ten cycles, check that the battery contacts on the head are clean and making firm contact.

The flash head powers on but the Profoto Air remote is showing a different battery level than the dock — which one is correct?

The remote reads charge state via a BMS data signal from the flash head; the dock reads directly from the cell. If these disagree, the BMS handshake between the new cell and the head did not complete correctly after the swap. Power the flash head fully off, remove the battery for 20 seconds, reinsert it, and power the head back on from cold. The two readouts should align once the BMS initialises from a clean boot — the dock figure is the more accurate reference during charging.
