Fits Saft 805565 emergency lighting units; replaces OEM part MGN0435 and equivalent Ni-CD cells.
2.4V, 2000mAh Ni-CD delivers the capacity original fittings expect for full-duration emergency evacuation lighting.
Cylindrical cell slides into the standard Saft holder with no connector modifications or locking tabs required.
We bench-tested this cell on the standard trickle-charge float circuit; BMS accepted the new pack within one charge cycle.
Run a full manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for rated duration—this confirms the cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to register new capacity before compliance testing.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Saft 805565 Series — 2.4V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (MGN0435)

This is a 2.4V, 2000mAh Ni-CD replacement cell for Saft emergency lighting units. It fits models 805565, 135869, 134891, and 786896 — a range of exit signs and backup lighting fixtures that share the same cell format and charge controller interface. Swap it in when the original cell can no longer hold enough charge to pass a duration test.

  • Cross-model fit — 805565, 135869, 134891, 786896: These fittings use the same 2.4V two-cell NiCd pack format with identical terminal orientation and charge float voltage. The BMS in each accepts the same current input, so one cell type serves all four model numbers without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and load test on compatible Saft hardware. The charge controller accepted the cell, moved from bulk to float charge without fault, and the cell held voltage under load through a simulated duration draw.
  • First-cycle activation on emergency fittings: Hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of installation. This forces the charge controller to register the new cell's capacity and confirms the cell accepts load before your next scheduled compliance test.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed NiCd cell ships in a partially discharged state after months in storage. The charge controller in these Saft fittings starts at a float rate, not a fast charge, so the cell may not reach full capacity for 24 to 48 hours after installation. Running a duration test too soon means the cell runs out of charge before the rated period ends — not a faulty cell, just an uncharged one. Let the fitting charge for a full 24 hours, then run the manual test cycle before logging any compliance result.

Charge indicator staying red after new cell installation

The charge controller monitors incoming cell voltage at power-up to decide whether to begin charging. A cell that has self-discharged below the controller's acceptance threshold during storage can register as a fault rather than a new cell. On most Saft fittings, remove mains power for 10 seconds, reapply, and the controller resamples cell voltage from zero. If the cell is above roughly 1.8V total, the controller will accept it and the indicator will shift to amber then green within the first charge cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My emergency light dims and cuts out after just a couple of minutes during the test — is the new battery faulty?

Not faulty — the cell needs conditioning. NiCd cells from storage have suppressed capacity until they complete at least one full charge-discharge cycle. The fitting's charge controller applies a low float current on first connection, so if you test within a few hours of installation the cell hasn't reached anywhere near 2000mAh. Charge the fitting for 24 hours on mains power, then run the full manual test cycle by holding the test button for the rated duration.

The fitting still shows a fault LED after I've confirmed the new cell is correctly seated and connected — what's causing that?

On several Saft fitting variants, the fault LED latches in hardware and does not clear automatically when the fault condition is resolved. The cell swap alone won't reset it. Remove mains power completely for at least 10 seconds, restore power, and the controller re-runs its startup check. If the new cell is seated correctly and its resting voltage is above 1.8V, the fault LED will clear within the first charge cycle.

The old battery looks swollen and the cell casing has distorted inside the fitting — what caused that?

Swelling in NiCd emergency lighting cells is almost always the result of years of continuous trickle charge in an enclosed fitting that runs warm. The charge controller maintains a float voltage indefinitely, and in a poorly ventilated housing that heat accelerates electrolyte breakdown and gas buildup inside the cell. When fitting the replacement, check that the fitting's ventilation slots are clear and unobstructed. If the fitting is mounted in a high-ambient-temperature location above roughly 35°C, schedule cell inspections every two years rather than waiting for a test failure.
