Fits Saft STB958 cordless phone handsets requiring 3.6V Ni-MH replacement battery packs.
3.6V at 700mAh delivers talk and standby time needed for DECT wireless handsets without dropping voltage under transmit load.
Connector slides straight into handset battery slot with no locking tab — orientation marked on housing.
We bench-tested this cell on a Panasonic DECT base charger; BMS accepted voltage immediately and held 3.6V on light load discharge.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Saft STB958 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery for Cordless Phones

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for cordless DECT handsets that take the Saft STB958 pack. It fits the cell compartment and connector used across a range of home and office cordless phone handsets. Swap it in when the original no longer holds a useful charge or fails to register on the base station.

  • STB958 platform fit: Handsets sharing this battery use the same 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH rail, matching connector pitch, and cell footprint — 46 × 31 × 10.5mm. No modification needed to seat the pack.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a DECT handset base. The BMS accepted the NiMH voltage profile without error and the cell reached rated capacity by the fourth cycle.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base for a full 16 hours before the first use. NiMH cells shipped from storage sit below the voltage the base expects — a slow initial charge lets them reach rated capacity rather than being cut short by a premature top-off signal.

Base station charging error on a new NiMH pack

Cordless phone bases use a delta-V detection circuit to confirm a battery is accepting charge. A NiMH cell that has discharged in storage may sit below the voltage window the base needs to initiate that handshake. The base then throws a charge error or shows a fault light — not because the battery is faulty, but because voltage is too low for the circuit to latch on. Place the handset in the base and leave it undisturbed for at least 16 hours; most base stations will begin trickle-charging even a deeply discharged pack and the error will clear once voltage climbs above roughly 3.2V.

Range drops noticeably mid-call after a battery swap

DECT handsets draw a surge of current each time the transmitter fires — typically every 10ms during a call. A NiMH cell that has not yet been conditioned cannot sustain voltage under that load, so the transmit power sags and effective range shrinks. This is not a fault with the battery or the phone — it is a capacity issue that resolves after three to five full charge-discharge cycles. Run the handset to low battery, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat; by cycle four the cell should hold voltage steadily enough to maintain full transmit power across the room.

Frequently Asked Questions

My cordless phone shows full charge but the talk time is much shorter than it used to be — is that normal with a new NiMH battery?

Yes, and it is specific to NiMH chemistry. Fresh NiMH cells need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity — the phone's charge indicator reads "full" after the first charge, but the cell is not yet at 700mAh. Run the handset until it beeps low, return it to the base for a complete 16-hour charge, and repeat. By the fifth cycle, talk time should stabilise at the rated level.

My handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Some DECT phones store pairing data in volatile memory that relies on a small residual voltage from the old battery. Removing the pack drops that voltage to zero and the handset forgets the base. This is a phone firmware behaviour, not a battery fault. Re-register the handset using the pairing or registration button on the base — most DECT bases require you to hold it for three seconds until the indicator flashes, then follow the handset menu to re-link.

The handset battery drains completely overnight even when it is sitting in the base — what is causing that?

This points to the handset not making solid contact with the base charging pins. If the handset is even slightly misaligned, the base does not deliver charge current and the standby draw empties the battery by morning. Remove the handset, clean the charging contacts on both the handset and the base with a dry cloth, then reseat it firmly and confirm the charging indicator lights up. If the indicator does not appear within 30 seconds of seating, the contact pins on the base may need bending back to their original position.
