Phone not powering on after the replacement battery sat in storage
Li-ion cells in storage self-discharge slowly. If the cell voltage drops below roughly 2.5V, the BMS trips a deep-discharge lockout and the phone will not respond to the power button or show any charging indicator. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a computer USB port — and leave it undisturbed for 20–30 minutes. The charge IC needs a slow trickle current to bring the cell back above the BMS re-enable threshold, which sits around 2.9V on this chemistry. The battery percentage on my SCH-R200 jumps around erratically after I fitted the replacement — what's happening?
The fuel gauge IC is actively recalibrating against the new cell's discharge curve and hasn't built a stable reference yet. It reads voltage and tries to map it to a percentage, but the mapping table is still based on the old cell. The erratic jumping settles after one or two complete discharge-charge cycles. My SCH-R200 gets noticeably warm near the battery while charging the new cell — should I be concerned?
Some warmth is expected on the first few charge cycles. If the phone becomes too hot to hold comfortably or stops charging mid-cycle, disconnect it and let it cool to room temperature before restarting.
