Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if the voltage drops below approximately 2.5V, the BMS enters lockout mode to prevent damage. My PM8200 feels warm near the battery while charging with the new cell — is that normal?
Some warmth is expected during the first few charge cycles on a new cell. A fresh Li-ion cell has slightly higher internal impedance before it is conditioned, which generates more heat per unit of charge current than a broken-in cell. If the device is hot to the touch or stops charging early, remove it from the case to improve airflow and switch to a standard 5V charger for the first two cycles. Warmth that drops off after two or three cycles is normal; persistent heat above that points to a charge IC fault on the board, not the battery.
