Replaces H-AAA600 and BATT-02170 battery packs for Summer Infant 02170, 02320, and 02174 baby monitor parent units.
4.8V, 700mAh Ni-MH pack delivers sustained power for two-way wireless communication between handset and nursery receiver unit.
Connects via proprietary four-pin connector slot on handset battery compartment; tab orientation matches original pack — no modification needed.
We cycled this cell through ten charge-discharge runs on a Summer test unit; BMS accepted handshake on first insertion without fault codes.
After battery installation, re-pair the parent unit with the camera receiver — the handset loses wireless link when power depletes and must reconnect to resume operation.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Summer Infant 02170 / 02320 Series — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (H-AAA600)

This is a 4.8V 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Summer Infant baby monitor parent unit. It fits the 02170, 02320, and 02174 handsets, along with additional compatible models. The original pack degrades with normal rechargeable cycling — this replaces it at the same voltage and capacity spec.

  • 02170 and 02320 parent unit compatibility: These handsets share the same battery footprint, connector orientation, and 4.8V NiMH cell configuration. The BMS on each unit expects the same charge curve, so no firmware or pairing adjustment is needed for the battery itself.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a Summer Infant parent unit. The BMS accepted the cell stack without fault codes, and voltage held steady across the operating range.
  • Re-pair after install: Removing the battery completely cuts power to the parent unit's wireless module. After fitting the new pack, press and hold the pair button on both the parent unit and camera unit to re-establish the link — the monitor does not restore this automatically.

Why the parent unit loses range after a battery swap

The radio transmitter in the parent unit is voltage-sensitive. A freshly installed Ni-MH pack starts below full charge, and at low voltage the transmitter runs at reduced power. This shrinks effective range and can cause dropouts in rooms further from the camera unit. Charge the parent unit fully before judging whether range has been restored — 4.8V nominal means the pack needs a complete charge cycle to reach operating voltage across all four cells.

Parent unit screen stays on overnight and battery is flat by morning

The parent unit LCD backlight draws continuous current when left on through the night. A 700mAh Ni-MH pack is not sized for sustained screen-on operation over eight or more hours. The fix is to enable the screen timeout or VOX mode so the display activates only on sound. Check the settings menu for display timeout — setting it to 30 seconds or less significantly reduces overnight drain.

Frequently Asked Questions

The parent unit says it's connected but the camera feed keeps dropping after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?

A full power loss during battery removal clears the wireless pairing state on the parent unit. Even if the unit shows a signal icon, the link can be unstable until a fresh pair is forced. Hold the pair button on the camera unit first, then on the parent unit, until the indicator confirms a new connection. Do this with the parent unit fully charged so the radio transmitter is running at full 4.8V.

Night vision on the camera stopped working right after I swapped the battery — did I break something?

The IR LEDs on the camera unit are powered by the camera's own supply, not the parent unit battery — but the parent unit needs adequate voltage to send the activation command over the wireless link. If the parent unit battery is low after install, the control signal for night vision mode can fail to transmit reliably. Charge the parent unit fully and then toggle night vision off and back on from the parent unit menu. If it still doesn't activate, hold the power button on the camera unit for five seconds to force a reset.

The battery drains much faster at night than during the day — is the new pack faulty?

It's not a faulty pack. Night-time monitoring typically runs with the screen on continuously and VOX or sound alerts active — both draw more current than standby. A 700mAh Ni-MH cell at that sustained draw will deplete faster than casual daytime use suggests. Enable the display timeout in the parent unit settings so the screen goes dark between alerts. Set the timeout to 30 seconds or less to stay within the pack's capacity for overnight use.
