Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sylvania VC4511SL01 / VC4512SL01 Series — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (AR8378BK01)
This is a 12V, 1800mAh (21.6Wh) Ni-MH replacement battery for the Sylvania VC4511SL01, VC4512SL01, VC4513SL01, VC4514SL, and 16 additional models in this camcorder line. It replaces OEM part numbers AR8378BK01, AR8395BK01, V80039BK01, and V80086BK01. When the original cell stops holding a charge, this unit restores power to the camcorder for recording and playback.
- VC45xx series compatibility: These Sylvania camcorder models share the same 12V power rail, physical form factor, and connector pinout — which is why a single cell covers the full lineup. The BMS in each model reads the same voltage thresholds, so no firmware difference affects acceptance.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a VC4511SL01 body. The BMS accepted the cell on first install, cycled cleanly without thermal event, and held voltage above the low-battery cutoff threshold through full discharge testing.
- First-use charge cycle on the VC4511SL01: Charge this cell fully inside the camcorder body or OEM charger before your first recording session. The Sylvania BMS maps its battery-remaining indicator against a full charge baseline — skipping this step causes erratic percentage readings from the first use.
Why the VC4511SL01 cuts power mid-recording on a new cell
Ni-MH cells have a flatter discharge curve than Li-ion. The Sylvania camcorder's BMS uses fixed voltage thresholds to call low battery and shut down — thresholds originally calibrated against the aged OEM cell's curve. A fresh replacement cell holds voltage higher for longer, then drops more steeply near end-of-charge. This means the BMS may trigger an abrupt shutdown with what looks like remaining charge. One full conditioning cycle through the camcorder body recalibrates the indicator and reduces unexpected cutoffs.
Battery percentage jumping erratically on the display
If the battery indicator on the VC4511SL01 jumps between levels unpredictably — say from 60% to 20% in one short clip — the BMS has not yet mapped the new cell's discharge curve. This is a voltage-threshold mismatch, not a faulty cell. Run one full charge-to-empty cycle using the OEM charger or the camcorder body itself. After that cycle, the indicator will track accurately against the new cell's actual remaining voltage, which for a full charge sits at approximately 12.0–12.5V.

Frequently Asked Questions
The VC4511SL01 shows "no battery" or won't power on with the new replacement installed — what's happening?
The Sylvania camcorder BMS runs an authentication check on first install and can reject a new cell if it hasn't seen a charge cycle yet. Remove the battery, reinsert it, then place the camcorder on charge via the OEM charger for a full cycle before attempting to power on. This initialises the BMS handshake. If the body still shows no battery after a full charge, check that the cell is fully seated — the connector on these units requires firm pressure to make contact.
Shot count is much lower than expected — is the replacement cell underperforming?
On the VC4511SL01, combined draw from the image sensor, recording processor, LCD, and autofocus during continuous video is significantly higher than the rated still-shot spec suggests. A new Ni-MH cell also delivers full rated capacity only after two to three conditioning cycles — the first few sessions will show shorter run than the cell's 1800mAh rating implies. Run three full charge-discharge cycles before judging capacity. After conditioning, the cell should reach its rated 21.6Wh output.
The camcorder body gets noticeably warm during extended video recording — is the battery causing it?
The heat is coming from the sensor and recording processor, not the battery. Sustained HD video recording pulls constant current from the cell, which drives the processor and sensor at full load — that's where the thermal output originates. The Ni-MH cell itself runs slightly warmer than Li-ion under sustained draw, but at 12V and 1800mAh it stays within normal thermal range. If the body becomes hot enough to trigger automatic shutdown, stop recording and let the unit cool to room temperature before resuming — check that the ventilation area around the battery compartment is unobstructed.
