Fits Teletec AK5 crane remote control, replaces OEM part BA-0005 and 80201902.
3.6V 2000mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers full solenoid activation voltage throughout the discharge curve on industrial hoist remotes.
Cylindrical AA-size cell seats into the battery compartment with spring contacts; verify polarity alignment before closing the remote housing.
We bench-tested this cell in the AK5 platform — solenoid dropout did not occur under repeated activation cycles at full load.
If the remote shows low battery immediately after installation, let the cell charge for 2–3 hours first — Ni-MH cells ship at storage voltage and need a full charge cycle before the remote's firmware recognizes actual capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Teletec AK5 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BA-0005)

This is a 3.6V 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Teletec AK5 wireless crane and hoist remote control. It replaces OEM part numbers BA-0005 and 80201902. Voltage and capacity match the original cell specification exactly.

  • AK5 remote compatibility: The AK5 uses a dedicated 3.6V Ni-MH cell — not a standard AA pack. The connector housing, voltage rail, and physical footprint (57.20 × 46.00 × 19.30mm) must match for the remote to recognise and draw from the battery correctly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the AK5 platform. The battery accepted a full charge without fault, and the remote responded to all control inputs including solenoid activation without voltage dropout.
  • First-install charge on crane remotes: Ni-MH cells ship at partial storage voltage — typically 30–50% charge. Do not treat this as a full charge. Crane remotes draw a sharp inrush current at solenoid activation; a partially charged Ni-MH cell can sag enough under that load to trigger a low-voltage cutoff. Charge fully before putting the remote back into crane or hoist operation.

Why the AK5 remote cuts out during solenoid or relay activation

Solenoid and relay coils draw a brief but sharp inrush current at the moment of activation — several times higher than the remote's steady-state draw. A Ni-MH cell at partial charge has reduced internal headroom to absorb that spike. Voltage sags below the remote's minimum operating threshold, and the AK5 drops out momentarily or resets. This happens even when the battery indicator shows charge remaining. A full charge before use eliminates this — target 4.2–4.5V measured at the battery terminals after a complete charge cycle before reinstalling.

AK5 remote not powering on after months of sitting unused

Ni-MH cells self-discharge faster than Li-ion — an AK5 left in storage for three or more months may have a battery sitting near or below 1.0V per cell. At that voltage the remote will not power on, and connecting a charger may show no response initially. Leave the battery on charge for at least 30 minutes before testing; most chargers will begin trickling current into a deeply discharged Ni-MH cell and recover it. If the remote still does not power on after a full charge cycle, measure voltage at the battery terminals — a healthy fully charged cell should read 1.35–1.45V per cell (4.05–4.35V total at the pack).

Frequently Asked Questions

My AK5 remote shows low battery immediately after I put in a new cell — is the battery faulty?

It is not faulty. Ni-MH cells ship at partial storage voltage, and the AK5 reads that as low battery because it is — the cell has not been charged yet. Connect the remote to its charger and run a full charge cycle before use. Once fully charged, the low-battery indication should clear.

The AK5 remote works fine on the bench but drops out every time I activate the hook or travel function on the crane — what is happening?

Solenoid activation pulls a sharp inrush current that causes the Ni-MH cell to sag under load. If the cell is not at full charge, terminal voltage drops below the remote's operating minimum at that exact moment, causing a dropout or reset. Charge the battery fully before returning the remote to crane operation — terminal voltage at full charge should measure 4.05–4.35V across the pack.

Our AK5 remote is used maybe once a month. How do we keep the battery from dying in storage between uses?

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 20–30% per month at room temperature. Left for three or more months without a charge, the cell can drop low enough that the remote will not power on. Charge the battery once a month during idle periods — even if the remote was not used. This keeps cell voltage above the point where recovery becomes uncertain on the next charge attempt.
