Swap it in when the original pack no longer holds a charge through a full shift.

Why the TE320 drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on a new TEB-4000

A new Li-ion cell ships at storage voltage — typically 3.6V to 3.65V, not a full 3.8V charge. The TE320 monitors rail voltage under RF load, and if it sags below the radio's TX power threshold during a long transmission, the radio steps down output power automatically. This is not a faulty pack — it is the radio protecting its finals under a partially charged cell. Charge the pack fully to 4.2V before the first shift and the behaviour stops.

The TE320 reads battery state through voltage thresholds, not a fuel gauge chip. A new pack at storage voltage sits near the threshold between the top two bar levels, so the display shows one bar fewer than a freshly charged pack would. This is a voltage reading, not a capacity fault. Put the pack on the dock for a full charge cycle and the indicator will read correctly at 4.2V.

My TE320 cuts out completely when I press PTT on a new TEB-4000 — why?

The BMS in a new pack trips on the transmit-current spike if the cell voltage is below roughly 3.7V at rest. This is a protection cutoff, not a dead battery. Charge the pack fully before first use — once the cell is at 4.2V, the BMS has enough headroom to supply the transmit surge without triggering overcurrent shutdown.

The charger dock blinks a fault LED and never starts charging the new TEB-4000 — what do I do?

When a pack ships below dock acceptance voltage, some TE320 chargers refuse to initiate a charge cycle. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the dock with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the fault LED persists, plug the dock out, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in, then reinsert the battery — this resets the dock's acceptance check at the current cell voltage.

The new TEB-4000 is inserted correctly but the dock never switches to a full-charge indicator — is the pack defective?

Cell impedance on a new pack can read slightly higher than an aged cell the charger was calibrated against, which causes the dock to extend the CV phase before declaring full. Leave it on charge for a complete uninterrupted cycle — typically until the indicator changes state. If it still does not clear after a full cycle, check that the dock contacts are clean and that no debris is preventing firm seating, then retry at 4.2V measured across the battery terminals.
