Fits Tether Tools Air Direct wireless tethering system, replaces OEM CS-LPE6 battery pack.
7.4V 1800mAh cell delivers 13.32Wh — supplies continuous power for remote image transmission and camera control during location shoots.
Connector seats into Air Direct dock with positive contact alignment; locking tab secures pack and prevents accidental disconnection mid-operation.
We bench-tested this cell in the Air Direct charging dock and confirmed the BMS accepted the new pack on first insertion with no handshake delay.
On first use, charge the cell fully inside the Air Direct dock before resuming tethering — the device firmware needs one complete charge cycle to map battery percentage display to this cell's discharge curve.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tether Tools Air Direct — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 7.4V 1800mAh Li-ion cell replaces the internal battery in the Tether Tools Air Direct wireless tethering unit. The Air Direct mounts to a camera hot shoe or rig and handles live image transmission to a laptop or tablet on set. Keeping a spare cell charged means a dead battery does not interrupt a tethered shoot.

  • Air Direct platform fit: The Air Direct runs a 7.4V two-cell Li-ion pack with a specific connector footprint and BMS communication line. This cell matches that voltage rail and physical format so the unit powers on and communicates normally with the host camera body.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell in an Air Direct unit connected to a Canon EOS body over a tethered USB-C session. The BMS accepted the cell on first install, charge state reported correctly, and the wireless link held through the full draw cycle.
  • First-charge protocol for Air Direct cells: Charge this cell fully via the Air Direct unit before your first shooting session. The Air Direct's onboard BMS maps the battery-remaining indicator against a full-charge baseline — skipping this step can cause the indicator to read low even when capacity is present.

Why the Air Direct drops its wireless link near the end of a charge cycle

The Air Direct's Wi-Fi or USB-C transmission module draws a short burst of current each time it syncs a full-resolution RAW file. As cell voltage drops toward the lower cutoff threshold, those bursts can pull voltage below the BMS trip point momentarily. The unit resets the wireless link to protect the cell rather than push through. If you see repeated disconnects late in a session, the cell is close to flat — swap it before the next shot sequence rather than waiting for a full shutdown.

Air Direct showing a lower charge percentage than expected after a partial charge

The Air Direct maps its battery indicator against the discharge curve of the original cell. A new replacement cell may have a slightly different voltage-to-capacity curve at mid-charge, causing the display to read lower than actual state of charge. Run two full charge and discharge cycles through the unit and the BMS will recalibrate its threshold mapping. After that, the indicator should track the cell accurately from 100% down to the low-voltage cutoff near 6.0V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Air Direct keeps disconnecting from my laptop mid-shoot — could this be the battery?

Yes, and it is one of the more common causes. When cell voltage sags under the burst current draw of a large RAW file transfer, the Air Direct's BMS briefly trips the output and the wireless or USB-C link resets. It looks like a software dropout but it is a power event. Swap to a fully charged cell and the disconnects will stop if the battery was the cause.

The battery percentage on my Air Direct jumped from 60% straight to 15% — is the cell faulty?

Not necessarily faulty — it is a BMS calibration issue. The Air Direct maps its charge indicator against a discharge curve, and a new or recently swapped cell may not match that curve at mid-range voltages yet. Run the cell down to the low-voltage cutoff and then charge it fully twice through the Air Direct unit. That gives the BMS enough cycle data to remap the indicator accurately.

My Air Direct cell drains noticeably faster in a cold outdoor location than it does in a studio — is that normal?

Li-ion cells lose usable capacity as temperature drops because internal resistance rises and the electrochemical reaction slows. At around 0°C a 1800mAh cell can deliver noticeably less charge before hitting the BMS cutoff voltage compared to the same cell at 20°C. Keep a second cell in an inner jacket pocket between uses — body heat holds it near room temperature and it will deliver its full rated capacity when you swap it in.
