Fits Tri-Tronics 1016200 electronic dog training collar; replaces OEM part CUSTOM-27.
9.6V 600mAh Ni-MH battery restores stimulation, tone, and collar control functions.
Connector slides into rear battery slot with positive contact facing outward; locking tab seats flush against collar housing.
We bench-tested this cell in a 1016200 unit; BMS accepted charge without fault codes, voltage held stable through discharge cycles.
After installation, take the collar outside and wait 5–10 minutes before first training session — the collar's control circuit performs a cold-start initialization after power interruption.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tri-Tronics 1016200 — 9.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (CUSTOM-27)

This 9.6V 600mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original power cell in the Tri-Tronics 1016200 dog training collar. It restores the collar's stimulation and tone output after the factory battery degrades through repeated charge cycles. Dimensions are 57.23 x 29.10 x 28.79mm — confirm these against your collar's battery bay before ordering.

  • Tri-Tronics 1016200 collar fit: The 1016200 collar runs a 9.6V Ni-MH cell to power its stimulation circuit and audible tone functions. This battery matches that voltage rail and form factor so the collar's BMS accepts the pack and reports a correct charge state.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through charge and discharge on the collar's own charging circuit. The BMS completed a full charge without tripping, and stimulation output held at rated levels across the test cycles.
  • Ni-MH memory effect on training collars: Ni-MH cells in low-draw collar applications develop capacity loss when repeatedly charged from a high state of charge. Run the collar down to the low-battery indicator before each recharge to keep the full 600mAh available over the battery's service life.

Why the 1016200 collar shows a full charge but delivers weak or no stimulation output

Ni-MH batteries in training collars can read full voltage at rest but collapse under the brief high-current draw of a stimulation pulse. This is voltage sag — the cell's internal resistance has risen through degradation, so the pack can't sustain the load. The collar's protection circuit then cuts output to prevent damage. A new battery with low internal resistance restores the current delivery the stimulation circuit needs.

Collar not responding to the transmitter after a battery swap

After a power interruption, some Tri-Tronics collar units lose their pairing state with the transmitter and stop responding to commands. This is a BMS or firmware re-initialisation issue, not a battery fault. Power the collar fully on, then follow the pairing sequence in your transmitter's manual — typically holding the transmitter's on button while the collar is in range. Confirm the collar LED flashes the expected pairing confirmation pattern before resuming use.

Frequently Asked Questions

I put the new battery in and the collar powers on fine, but the stimulation feels weaker than it used to — why?

A fresh Ni-MH cell sometimes needs two or three full charge-discharge cycles before it delivers its rated capacity. Run the collar to the low-battery indicator, then charge it fully — repeat this twice. If output is still weak after conditioning, check that the contact points on the collar and the charger are clean and making solid contact.

The collar's battery drains noticeably faster since I switched to the new cell — is that normal?

For the first few cycles, yes. Ni-MH batteries leave the factory in a partially discharged state and don't hit full 600mAh capacity until they're broken in. Run three full discharge-recharge cycles and track how long the collar lasts from there. If drain remains high after conditioning, check that the collar isn't left powering on between sessions — the stimulation circuit draws current even on standby.

The charger LED stays red and never switches to green after I installed the replacement battery — what's happening?

This usually means the charger isn't detecting a valid pack voltage at the start of the charge cycle. Ni-MH cells can drop below the charger's minimum detection threshold if they've self-discharged during storage. Remove the battery, let the collar sit for two minutes, then reinsert and reconnect the charger. If the LED still doesn't switch, measure the battery terminals with a multimeter — a reading below 7V means the pack needs a recovery charge using a Ni-MH charger with a trickle or recovery mode.
