Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tri-Tronics 190DT / 300DT / 700DT Series — 9.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (DC-10)
This is a 9.6V, 250mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Tri-Tronics dog training collars. It fits the 190DT, 300DT, 700DI, and 700DT models. The battery powers the collar's stimulation and tone correction circuits between charges.
- 190DT / 300DT / 700DT platform fit: These collars share the same voltage rail, battery bay dimensions, and connector orientation. The 9.6V Ni-MH cell stack matches the collar's onboard charging circuit without requiring any BMS handshake — the charging control sits in the base station, not the battery.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge passes on the 190DT platform. Voltage output held steady across the stimulation pulse sequences, and the collar's charge indicator responded correctly at both the low and full states.
- Post-swap collar reset: After installing a fresh battery, power the collar on before placing it on the dog and run a quick transmitter test at close range. Ni-MH cells can sit at a partial state of charge during shipping — a full charge cycle through the base station before first field use brings the cell to its working capacity ceiling.
Why the 700DT collar shows a full charge but cuts out mid-session
Ni-MH cells have a flat discharge curve — voltage stays close to nominal for most of the cycle, then drops off sharply near the end. The 700DT's charge indicator reads voltage, not true state of charge, so it can show green right up until the cell is nearly exhausted. Stimulation pulses draw brief, sharp current spikes. When the cell is low, those spikes pull the voltage below the collar's operating threshold and trigger a cutout. If this happens consistently mid-session, the battery needs a full charge cycle — not just a top-up.
Collar not responding to transmitter after battery replacement
A fresh battery swap can cause the collar to boot into a pairing standby state on some Tri-Tronics units. The transmitter and collar lose their active link when power is fully interrupted. Hold the collar's power button until the indicator light cycles, then re-establish the link from the transmitter following the pairing steps in the collar manual. Confirm the collar is responding at close range — within 3 metres — before moving to normal operating distance.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Tri-Tronics 300DT shows fully charged but the stimulation cuts out after a few corrections — is the new battery faulty?
This is almost always the flat discharge curve of Ni-MH chemistry, not a faulty cell. The collar's indicator reads terminal voltage, which stays close to 9.6V for most of the discharge cycle before dropping sharply. Stimulation pulses draw short current spikes — when the cell hits the low end of its charge, those spikes pull voltage below the collar's cutoff threshold. Run the battery through a full charge cycle in the base station until the indicator confirms complete, then retest.
The battery drains much faster during outdoor training sessions in open fields than it did at home — why?
Tri-Tronics collars in the 700-series use both radio reception and active correction circuitry. In open areas with the dog at longer range, the transmitter and collar are working at higher output levels to maintain signal, which pulls more current from the 250mAh cell per session. Shorter correction intervals and closer working distances reduce the current draw per use. If drain is consistently heavy, check that the transmitter range setting isn't fixed to maximum — dial it back to the lowest setting that maintains reliable response at your working distance.
After fitting the new battery, the transmitter and collar won't link — the collar light just blinks and doesn't respond to button presses on the handset.
A full power interruption clears the active transmitter-collar link on most Tri-Tronics units. The blinking light indicates the collar is in standby waiting for a link, not a hardware fault. Hold the collar power button down for a full 5 seconds until the indicator changes state, then follow the pairing sequence from the transmitter — typically holding the transmitter's power button until the link indicator confirms. Test response at under 3 metres before moving further away.
