Fits Trimble TSC2, TSC2 controller, TDS Ranger 300, and 500 data collectors; replaces OEM part numbers 39392848 and B07B4SN5FD.
3.8V Li-ion at 6600mAh delivers 25.08Wh for extended survey sessions without mid-field battery swaps during GPS logging.
Connector seats into the TSC2 battery bay with a positive terminal contact and mechanical locking tab that seats flush.
We bench-tested this cell against a discharged OEM pack; BMS accepted the handshake on insertion, voltage held steady under GPS module load.
After installation, power on the TSC2 and run the internal system diagnostics from the Settings menu—the instrument recalibrates battery voltage thresholds to the new cell, preventing premature low-battery cutoffs during your first field deployment.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Trimble TSC2 / TDS Ranger 300 & 500 — 3.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (39392848)

This 3.8V, 6600mAh Li-ion battery replaces the factory pack in the Trimble TSC2 and TSC2 Controller, as well as the TDS Ranger 300 and 500 Data Collectors. All four units share the same battery bay format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. Use the capacity figure from the product data above — 6600mAh / 25.08Wh — when logging equipment specs.

  • TSC2 and Ranger 300/500 compatibility: These four models share a common battery housing, a matched three-pin connector, and an identical BMS communication line. The controller firmware reads cell voltage and temperature data over that line — so the pack must meet the same handshake spec across all four platforms, and this one does.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the TSC2 power-on sequence and GPS acquisition load. The BMS held voltage within spec under the combined GNSS radio, display backlight, and Bluetooth draw without tripping a low-voltage cutoff or throwing a charge-error flag.
  • First field deployment prep: After fitting the new pack, run a full charge before heading out, then let the TSC2 complete one full discharge cycle in the field. The device maps cell voltage thresholds during that first working cycle — skip it and the battery indicator will show erratic percentages for the first several sessions.

BMS lockout after the TSC2 sat unused in a carry case for months

Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly in storage. If the pack drops below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS trips a deep-discharge protection latch and blocks both charging and power-on. The TSC2 will show no response — no boot screen, no charge indicator — even with a known-good cable. To recover, apply a charger and leave it connected for at least 30–45 minutes without interruption; the BMS needs sustained trickle current to exit the protection state before normal charging resumes.

TSC2 shuts down mid-session during active GPS logging

Under sustained GNSS tracking load, the combined draw from the radio module, processor, and backlight can pull the cell voltage down faster than the indicator suggests. If an aging or partially discharged pack dips below the BMS low-voltage cutoff — typically around 3.0V under load — the unit shuts off instantly, even if the display showed 20–30% remaining moments before. This is a voltage-sag event, not a firmware fault. A fresh, fully charged 6600mAh pack provides enough headroom to prevent the voltage from collapsing under that sustained load.

Frequently Asked Questions

The TSC2 won't turn on and shows no charge indicator even though I just plugged it in — is the battery dead?

Most likely the pack discharged below the BMS protection threshold during storage, and the protection latch is now blocking both power-on and charging. Leave the charger connected continuously for at least 30–45 minutes without unplugging — the BMS needs a sustained trickle current to exit deep-discharge lockout before it will accept a normal charge. If the charge LED still doesn't activate after an hour, check that the charger output is reading at least 5V at the connector.

My TSC2 battery percentage jumps around erratically after fitting the new pack — shows 80%, then drops to 40% on reboot — what's wrong?

The TSC2 firmware calibrates its voltage-to-percentage map against the old cell's discharge curve. A new pack with different resting voltages across its state-of-charge range will confuse that map until the device recalibrates. Run one full charge to 100%, then use the unit in the field until it shuts down on low battery — that single complete cycle lets the firmware re-anchor its thresholds to the new cell. The readout stabilises after that first full cycle.

The TSC2 powers on fine but cuts out the moment I start a USB data transfer to the laptop — what causes that?

USB data transfer adds a combined draw on top of the active GPS radio and display — the processor spins up, the USB controller activates, and total current demand spikes. If the pack is below roughly 50% charge, cell voltage can sag enough under that combined load to trip the BMS low-voltage cutoff and kill the unit instantly. Charge the battery to at least 80% before initiating any USB sync session, and check that the laptop USB port is delivering full 5V rather than a low-power hub port that adds nothing to offset the draw.
