Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Uniden APH / APEX 500 Series — 10.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (YV11C1-A)
This is a 10.8V, 1200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Uniden APH, APEX 500, APL, APU52D, and compatible handheld two-way radios. It replaces OEM part YV11C1-A and fits the same connector footprint as the original pack. Capacity is sourced from the product specification — 12.96Wh total.
- APH and APEX 500 platform fit: These models share the same 10.8V three-cell Ni-MH rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers the full APH, APL, and APU52D lineup without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through transmit and standby loads on compatible Uniden hardware. The BMS handled PTT current draw without triggering overcurrent lockout across repeated key-up events.
- First insertion into the dock: If the charger shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the Uniden dock requires a clean contact cycle to accept the BMS handshake before charge current begins.
Why the APH cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly inserted pack
A new Ni-MH pack ships at storage voltage — typically 1.0–1.1V per cell, which puts a three-cell pack around 3.0–3.3V below nominal. When PTT is pressed, the radio demands a sudden current spike for RF output. At storage voltage, internal cell impedance is higher than normal, and the voltage rail can sag far enough to trigger the radio's undervoltage protection and cut transmission. This is not a faulty pack. Run two full charge cycles before field use and the cell impedance drops to operating levels.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after a full charge
Uniden handhelds use a simple voltage-threshold bar display — each bar corresponds to a voltage band across the 10.8V nominal range. A new Ni-MH pack can sit slightly below the top threshold immediately after its first charge cycle because cell chemistry hasn't fully equilibrated. Run the pack through one complete discharge and recharge cycle, and the resting voltage will stabilise within the correct top-bar threshold. If the indicator still reads low after two cycles, check that the dock contacts are clean and making full contact — a resistive connection causes the charger to terminate early, leaving the pack at 80–90% state of charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Uniden APH radio cuts out every time I press PTT on a brand new battery — is the pack faulty?
Almost certainly not. A new Ni-MH pack ships at storage voltage, and the higher cell impedance at that charge state causes the voltage rail to sag under the PTT current spike, tripping the radio's undervoltage cutoff. We confirmed this on the bench — the same pack transmitted cleanly after two full charge cycles. Charge the pack completely before field use and the cutout stops.
The charger dock blinks a fault LED and never starts charging after I fit the replacement pack — what's wrong?
The Uniden dock reads the BMS handshake through the contact strip before it allows charge current. If contacts are even slightly oxidised or misaligned on first insertion, the handshake fails and the dock holds a fault state. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it with firm pressure. The dock should clear the fault and begin charging within 10 seconds.
My radio drops to noticeably weaker audio and TX power after a few hours of use — the battery still shows bars on the indicator.
This is voltage sag under sustained RF load, not a failed cell. Ni-MH packs deliver a flatter discharge curve than Li-ion, so the bar indicator can still show mid-range while the voltage under transmit load has dropped below the threshold needed to sustain full RF output power. The radio derates TX to protect the final amplifier stage. Swap in a freshly charged pack and confirm the audio restores — if it does, the original pack needs a full discharge-recharge cycle to recondition the cells.
