Fits V Tech VM981 and VM991 parent monitor units; replaces OEM part number AHB404860.
3.7V 1500mAh Li-Polymer cell powers wireless connectivity and screen operation on the handheld parent unit.
Connector slides into the battery slot beneath the parent unit back cover; no locking tab, just flat insertion.
We bench-tested this cell in a VM981 parent unit; the BMS accepted charge without fault codes and held voltage stable across full discharge cycles.
After battery swap, re-pair the parent unit with the camera unit — the monitor loses its wireless link after complete power loss and must reconnect.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

V Tech VM981 / VM991 Parent Unit — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (AHB404860)

This 3.7V 1500mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the OEM AHB404860 cell inside the V Tech VM981 and VM991 parent unit. It fits the handheld monitor that receives audio and video from the baby unit. Swap it when the original cell no longer holds a charge between feeds.

  • VM981 and VM991 parent unit fit: Both models share the same parent unit housing, connector pinout, and battery bay dimensions. The AHB404860 cell drops into either unit without modification — the same 3.7V nominal voltage rail powers the display, speaker, and wireless radio on both.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a VM981 parent unit. The BMS accepted the charge immediately, voltage held steady under screen-on load, and the unit paired to the baby unit without intervention after power-up.
  • Re-pair after fitting: After replacing the battery, the parent unit has no stored power and loses its wireless link to the baby unit. Power both units on and run the pairing sequence from the parent unit menu before placing the baby unit back in the nursery.

Parent unit battery draining overnight with the screen on

The VM981 parent unit draws significantly more current when the LCD backlight stays on continuously. Night-time monitoring with the screen active is a sustained load that a 1500mAh cell was not sized to carry through an eight-hour stretch on screen alone. The parent unit has a screen timeout setting in the display menu — activating it cuts the average draw substantially and extends the charge between top-ups. Set the timeout to the shortest interval that still suits how you use it overnight.

Night vision feed not appearing after battery swap

The baby unit's IR LEDs are powered independently from the baby unit's own supply, but the parent unit's radio needs sufficient voltage to request and decode the night-vision stream. If the parent unit battery is below roughly 3.5V when you first power it on after the swap, the radio operates at reduced power and the IR stream may fail to display. Charge the parent unit to full before testing night vision. If the feed still does not appear at full charge, re-run the pairing sequence — a dropped wireless link during power loss can leave the units out of sync.

Frequently Asked Questions

My VM981 parent unit won't connect to the baby unit after I put the new battery in — what do I do?

This is expected behaviour. When the parent unit loses power completely, it drops the stored wireless pairing with the baby unit. Power on both units, go into the parent unit menu, and run the manual pairing sequence. Once they link, the connection stays until the next full power interruption.

The range on my VM981 parent unit feels shorter after swapping the battery — is something wrong?

The parent unit's radio output is voltage-sensitive. A freshly installed battery that has not been fully charged yet will sit closer to 3.5V than 3.7V, and the radio transmits at reduced power at that level. Charge the parent unit fully before judging the range. If the range is still noticeably reduced at full charge, re-run the pairing sequence — a partial link after a power interruption can also limit signal quality.

My VM991 parent unit screen comes on but the battery dies faster than it used to even with the new cell — what's causing that?

Continuous screen-on operation is the most common cause. The LCD backlight on the VM991 parent unit draws enough current that a 1500mAh cell will not last a full overnight stretch at maximum brightness with no timeout. Go into the display settings and enable the screen timeout. If the battery still drains unusually fast with the screen off, check that the speaker volume is not set to maximum — the audio amplifier is the next highest draw after the backlight.
