This is a 3.7V 3200mAh Li-Polymer battery for the ViewSonic Zoompad tablet. It replaces part number MLP486890 when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge. Capacity matches the factory specification at 11.84Wh.

  • Zoompad platform fit: The Zoompad uses a single-cell Li-Polymer pack with a specific connector pinout and BMS handshake tied to the charge IC on the motherboard. This battery matches that voltage rail and connector so the charge controller accepts it without a fault state.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Zoompad unit. The BMS reported clean voltage curves, no overcurrent trips, and the charge IC accepted the cell from the first connection.
  • Fuel gauge calibration after swap: After fitting this battery, run the tablet down to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using the device. This single full cycle resets the fuel gauge IC calibration against the new cell and clears the inaccurate percentage readings that appear immediately after installation.

Zoompad shutting down at 15–25% battery remaining

The Zoompad's combined display and WiFi load draws a current spike that can pull cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold before the fuel gauge hits zero. This happens most often when the fuel gauge IC is calibrated to a worn cell and misreads actual capacity on a new one. The result is a hard shutdown even though the percentage counter shows charge remaining. One full discharge-to-shutoff cycle followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% realigns the IC — after that, the shutoff point should track correctly down to around 3.4V.

Fast charging not available after battery replacement

Some Zoompad units use a proprietary charge negotiation handshake between the charge IC and the battery BMS. On the first cycle after a swap, the charge controller may default to standard 5V charging while it verifies the new cell parameters. This is not a fault — the IC is validating voltage response before stepping up charge current. Complete one full charge cycle using the original ViewSonic charger and the fast charge profile typically resumes from the second cycle onward.

Run the tablet down to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using it during that charge. After that single full cycle, the IC recalibrates and the shutoff point tracks correctly to around 3.4V.

The Zoompad percentage jumps around — shows 80%, then suddenly drops to 45% in minutes

This is fuel gauge drift — the IC is estimating capacity from a calibration map built on the old degraded cell, so readings on the new battery are erratic. The percentage counter loses accuracy when the reference curve no longer matches actual cell behaviour. Fix it with one complete discharge to automatic shutoff followed by a full uninterrupted charge to 100%. After that cycle the gauge reads against the new cell's actual voltage curve and stabilises.

Fast charging stopped working after I swapped the battery on my Zoompad

After a battery swap, the charge IC defaults to standard 5V input on the first cycle while it validates the new cell's voltage response — this is the controller protecting the cell, not a compatibility fault. Use the original ViewSonic charger for the first full charge and do not interrupt it. Fast charge negotiation typically resumes from the second charge cycle once the IC has logged a complete accepted charge from the new cell.
