Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Zebra ZR138 / ZR138CR — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (P1098850-00)
This 7.4V, 3400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Zebra ZR138 and ZR138CR mobile thermal printers. It fits the same connector and communicates with the printer's BMS without modification. Use it as a direct swap when the original pack no longer holds a working charge.
- ZR138 and ZR138CR compatibility: Both models run the same 7.4V power rail and use an identical battery bay and connector. The BMS handshake protocol is shared across the pair, so one cell chemistry and one connector pinout serves both units.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through charge cycles on the ZR138 platform and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without fault codes. Load testing under thermal print head and paper feed motor draw showed stable voltage delivery across the full discharge curve.
- First-use calibration for the ZR138: After installing, charge to 100% and print at least five continuous test labels before deploying. The paper feed motor draws a short current spike on each feed cycle — running a calibration print sequence lets the BMS log the load profile correctly for the new cell.
Why the ZR138 cuts out mid-print job after long storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the ZR138 sits unused for several weeks with a depleted pack, the cell voltage can drop below the BMS re-activation threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. At that point the BMS enters a protection lockout and the printer will not respond to the power button. A slow pre-charge from a compatible charger, held at low current, is usually enough to bring the cell back above the threshold and re-enable normal operation.
Printer drops Bluetooth connection mid-job at low battery
The ZR138's Bluetooth radio and thermal print head both draw from the same 7.4V supply. As the pack discharges toward the lower end of its range, simultaneous radio transmission and head activation can sag the bus voltage enough to trigger a radio reset. This appears as a dropped connection or a stalled print queue even though the printer stays powered on. Recharging the battery above 50% — roughly 7.2V under load — eliminates the sag and keeps the radio link stable through a full print job.

Frequently Asked Questions
The ZR138 won't turn on after sitting in the van for three weeks — is the battery dead?
Not necessarily dead, but likely below the BMS re-activation floor. Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and if the pack drops below roughly 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters protection lockout and the printer won't respond to the power button. Put the battery on charge and leave it connected for at least 30 minutes at low current before attempting to power on — the BMS needs time to confirm the cell voltage has recovered above the enable threshold before it releases the output.
Print is faded or uneven even with a full charge showing on the ZR138 — what's happening?
Faded print on a thermal printer usually means the print head isn't reaching the correct operating temperature, which happens when the battery can't sustain stable voltage under load. An aged or partially failed cell may show a full charge indicator at rest but sag significantly the moment the thermal head draws current. Swap in a fresh battery and print five test labels in quick succession — if density and consistency return immediately, the original pack has lost capacity and can no longer hold voltage under thermal head load.
Paper feed keeps jamming on the ZR138 after I replaced the battery — did I fit the wrong one?
A misfit battery isn't the likely cause — the feed motor torque issue is usually a calibration gap, not a compatibility problem. The paper feed motor in the ZR138 relies on a consistent current profile, and a new cell that hasn't been through a calibration print sequence may cause the BMS to under-deliver current on the first few feed cycles. Charge the battery to 100% and run five continuous test prints before loading a live label roll — this establishes the correct load profile in the BMS and restores normal feed pressure.
