Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ABB 710-21X Series — 7.2V Li-SOCl2 Replacement Battery (BATLI02)
This is a 7.2V lithium thionyl chloride backup battery rated at 14500mAh (104.4Wh), built to the BATLI02 specification. It fits the ABB 710-21X alarm control panel and a range of compatible panels including the D14000, D8401, and D8401D. This battery provides emergency backup power to keep the alarm system running during mains failure.
- Compatible panel range: The 710-21X, D14000, D8401, and D8401D series all share the same BATLI02 footprint, connector pinout, and 7.2V supply rail. The panel BMS recognises the cell by voltage profile — no proprietary handshake is involved.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell against a D8401 panel at low-voltage cutoff threshold. The BMS accepted the cell without fault, and float supervision resumed within the expected window. No tamper or fault codes appeared during the test cycle.
- Post-installation float period: Li-SOCl2 cells carry a passive film on the anode that forms during storage. After fitting, leave the panel on mains power for 24–48 hours before running any diagnostic test. Running a zone or siren test before the cell stabilises will cause the panel to report a low battery condition even on a fully good cell.
Why the 710-21X panel reports low battery hours after a new cell is fitted
Li-SOCl2 cells develop a lithium chloride passivation layer during shelf storage. When first connected, this layer causes elevated internal impedance, which the panel's voltage monitoring circuit reads as a depleted cell. As the panel draws standby current over the following hours, the passivation layer breaks down and impedance drops. Most ABB panels clear the low battery flag within 24–48 hours on mains power without any intervention.
Alarm panel loses all programming during a mains outage after cell replacement
If the replacement cell has not completed its float stabilisation period, the panel's supply voltage can sag below the memory-retention threshold the moment mains is lost. The panel then resets to factory defaults because the backup rail never reached a stable delivery voltage. This is not a fault with the cell itself — it is a conditioning issue. Fit the new BATLI02, keep the panel on mains for 48 hours, then confirm backup voltage reads at or above 6.8V at the battery terminals before cutting mains for a test.

Frequently Asked Questions
My ABB 710-21X panel is showing a low battery warning straight after I fitted the new BATLI02 — is the replacement cell dead?
Almost certainly not. Li-SOCl2 cells build up a passivation layer during storage that raises internal impedance, which the panel reads as low voltage on first connection. Leave the panel on mains power for 24–48 hours and the layer will dissipate as standby current flows through the cell. If the warning is still showing after 48 hours on mains, measure the battery terminal voltage — it should read above 6.8V.
The siren didn't sound during my test after swapping the backup battery on a D8401 panel — what's wrong?
Some ABB panels impose a 30–60 second charge-stabilisation delay on the siren output immediately after a new backup cell is detected. This prevents a false activation while the cell's impedance settles. Wait at least two minutes after the panel has accepted the new battery before triggering a siren test. If the siren still does not sound after that delay, check the siren tamper loop and confirm the battery terminal voltage is above 6.8V before looking elsewhere.
My ABB panel wiped all its zone programming during a power cut, even though I had just fitted a brand-new BATLI02 — why?
A freshly fitted Li-SOCl2 cell needs time on float charge before it can deliver stable backup voltage. If mains power failed before the 48-hour conditioning window was complete, the cell's output sagged below the panel's memory-retention threshold and the processor reset. Restore your programming, keep the panel on mains for a full 48 hours, then verify backup voltage at the battery terminals reads 6.8V or higher before testing mains-loss behaviour again.
