Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Alcatel One Touch Pop D5 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (TLi018D1)

This is a 3.7V, 1600mAh Li-ion cell for the Alcatel One Touch Pop D5 and OT-5038 series smartphones. It replaces OEM part numbers TLi018D1 and TLi018D2. Fit models include the OT-5038, OT-5038A, and OT-5038E, among others sharing the same battery bay and connector spec.

  • OT-5038 series compatibility: The OT-5038, OT-5038A, and OT-5038E all run on the same 3.7V single-cell rail with an identical connector pinout and BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers the entire sub-family.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the OT-5038 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, and the charge IC brought it to 4.2V termination cleanly on the first cycle.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: Disable fast charging for the first complete discharge-charge cycle after installation. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging begins against an uncalibrated baseline.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Pop D5 after a cell swap

This is a voltage-cliff problem, not a capacity problem. The fuel gauge IC still references the old cell's discharge curve, so it reads 25% when the new cell's actual terminal voltage has already dropped below the modem's minimum operating threshold. Under screen-on or active call load, the voltage dips sharply and the phone cuts out before the OS can log a low-battery event. One full discharge-to-shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% resets the coulomb counter and eliminates most cliff shutdowns.

Phone reports wrong battery percentage after replacement

The fuel gauge IC on the OT-5038 was calibrated to the original cell's internal resistance and voltage curve. A new cell has different impedance characteristics, so the gauge's state-of-charge estimate drifts — often reading high early in discharge and then dropping steeply. The fix is one full manual cycle: drain the phone until it shuts off automatically, then charge uninterrupted to 100% with the screen off. After that cycle, percentage reporting stabilises to within a few points of actual charge state.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Pop D5 keeps shutting off at around 25% after I put in the new battery — is the cell faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC was calibrated to your old cell's discharge curve, and the new cell hits its voltage floor at a different state of charge — the phone cuts power before the percentage reaches zero. Drain the phone until it shuts itself off, then charge it in one uninterrupted session to 100%. That single full cycle recalibrates the coulomb counter and stops the early cutoff.

Fast charging stopped working the first time I plugged in after swapping the battery — what happened?

On the first charge cycle, the charge IC runs a conditioning pass on an uncalibrated cell and often defaults to standard current rather than high-current fast charge. This is normal BMS behaviour, not a fault. Complete one full standard charge-discharge cycle, then reconnect to your fast charger. Fast charge acceptance typically resumes from the second cycle onward once the BMS has a valid impedance reading for the new cell.

The phone gets noticeably warm near the battery during the first few charges — should I be concerned?

A new Li-ion cell has higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC dissipates slightly more heat during the initial cycles. Warmth during charging is expected and reduces after two or three full cycles as impedance settles. If the phone becomes hot to the touch or the charge IC triggers a thermal flag — shown as charging paused or a temperature warning on screen — remove it from the charger and let it cool to room temperature before resuming. Normal break-in warmth requires no action beyond keeping the phone out of direct sunlight or enclosed spaces while charging.
