Fits BAUER-BOSCH VCC-516, VCC-526, VCC-550, VRP-30 cameras; replaces OEM part BA32-1.
12V, 1800mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers full power to sensor, autofocus, and flash during recording sessions.
Slides into battery compartment with standard camera connector; locking tab secures firmly without forced insertion.
We ran full discharge cycles on the VCC-516 body — cell tracked voltage curve cleanly, no early cutoff from BMS rejection.
On first install, charge fully in the camera body itself before shooting; BAUER-BOSCH bodies require one internal charge cycle to map the Ni-MH discharge curve to the battery-remaining display.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

BAUER-BOSCH VCC-516 Series — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BA32-1)

This is a 12V, 1800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the BAUER-BOSCH VCC-516, VCC-526, VCC-550, and VRP-30 video cameras. It slots into the original battery compartment and powers recording and playback through the same voltage rail as the factory cell. Capacity is rated at 21.6Wh — taken from product data, not estimated.

  • VCC-516, VCC-526, VCC-550, VRP-30 compatibility: These four models share the same 12V battery bay geometry and the same BA32-1 connector pinout. The camera's BMS reads the same voltage profile across all four, so one cell covers the group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the VCC-516 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, and voltage held steady across both record and playback loads with no mid-session cutoff.
  • First-use charge cycle on VCC-516 and VCC-526: Run one full charge inside the camera body or OEM charger before shooting. These bodies map the battery-remaining indicator to a discharge curve — skipping this step causes the indicator to jump erratically from the first shot.

Why the VCC-516 battery indicator drops suddenly during recording

The VCC-516 uses a voltage-threshold method to estimate remaining charge. Ni-MH cells have a relatively flat discharge curve, so the camera reads nearly full voltage for most of the discharge, then voltage drops sharply near the end. The indicator responds to that cliff — it stays high until the cell is almost empty, then falls fast. This is normal Ni-MH behaviour, not a cell fault. Expect the display to show high charge right up to the point the camera powers down.

Camera showing dead battery on a freshly charged replacement cell

A new Ni-MH cell can read as flat if the camera's BMS has no baseline charge curve stored for it yet. The camera sees an uncharacterised cell and defaults to a low or empty reading. Fix this by inserting the battery and running a full charge cycle directly in the camera body — not a standalone charger. After one complete in-body charge, the BMS establishes its curve reference and the indicator reads correctly from 12V down.

Frequently Asked Questions

My VCC-516 shows the battery symbol flashing immediately after I put in the new BA32-1 cell — is the battery dead out of the box?

It isn't dead — the camera's BMS has no stored discharge curve for the new cell yet and defaults to a low reading. Insert the battery, connect the camera to its OEM charger, and run one complete charge cycle inside the body. After that single cycle, the BMS maps the cell's voltage profile and the indicator reads accurately from 12V down.

The battery percentage on my VCC-526 jumps from 80% to 20% without warning mid-recording — what's causing that?

This is a voltage-threshold mapping issue specific to Ni-MH chemistry. The VCC-526 tracks charge by reading voltage steps, but Ni-MH cells hold a flat voltage across most of their discharge range before dropping sharply near the end. The camera interprets that sudden drop as a large percentage loss. One full in-body charge cycle lets the BMS recalibrate its threshold points — after that, the jumps reduce significantly.

I'm getting noticeably fewer recordings per charge than I expected from a 1800mAh cell on the VCC-550 — what's pulling it down?

The VCC-550 draws current from the same cell across the image sensor, recording circuitry, and viewfinder simultaneously. Sustained video recording stacks all three loads at once, which pulls well above the base current draw used in single-shot ratings. Cold ambient temperatures also reduce usable Ni-MH capacity because the electrochemical reaction slows below 15°C. Store the battery at room temperature before a shoot and keep it warm during use to recover closer to the rated 21.6Wh.
